    Descrição

    The National Book Foundation is seeking a full-time Development Manager to help support a growing development department and the implementation of a new five-year strategic plan to engage readers of all ages across the country. This role will report to the Director of Development and work closely with the Executive Director to support the continued growth of a comprehensive contributed revenue program with a strong focus on individual giving. The ideal candidate is an experienced development professional with a proven track record of generating revenue who is interested in working in a creative, entrepreneurial environment. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, ability to manage a high level of detail, and be excited to strengthen our development infrastructure while working collaboratively within a small, dedicated team.

    The ideal start date for this position is July 2026. This is a full-time exempt position based in New York City and operates on a flexible hybrid schedule. Some evening and weekend work is required.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Manage a small but growing monthly donor program, including drafting ongoing and annual updates, customer service, and planning acquisition campaigns
    • Supervise and execute on exemplary acknowledgement processes, including ensuring timely and acknowledgements of all donations and oversight of interns in donor fulfillment tasks
    • Manage stewardship/cultivation planning with senior leadership, including helping to identify segments/individuals, drafting outreach, tracking donor updates, ensuring donor inclusion and invitations to programmatic events as appropriate, and maintaining data in Salesforce
    • Manage timelines, logistics, and follow up on virtual and in-person donor events including annual board dinner and strategic plan networking events
    • Draft and coordinate mail and digital campaigns such as our annual appeal, anniversary letter, and holiday card, as well as other donor communications, including extensive individual donor outreach throughout National Book Awards season
    • Collaborate with the Communications & Marketing team to develop fundraising campaigns via social media, and develop targeted email campaigns to current and prospectively donors throughout the year
    • Develop and analyze monthly reports on key donor benchmarks (retention, acquisition, monthly donors, campaign performance, and other relevant metrics)

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Support work with evolving and emerging affinity groups, prepare research briefs and other research/analysis
    • Ensure correct development recognition on National Book Awards-related materials
    • Track performance of efforts against revenue goals and work with Finance team to reconcile revenue for monthly financials
    • Other duties as assigned

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 4 years of nonprofit development experience
    • Extremely organized, communicative, detail-oriented, and deadline-conscious
    • Discretion with handling sensitive and confidential information
    • Ability to balance overlapping priorities and timelines, and recommend solutions that support revenue growth
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills with an ability to tailor messaging for different audiences
    • Experience with Salesforce and Classy/GoFundMe required, Mailchimp experience is a plus
    • Experience with event planning including logistics coordination
    • Demonstrate capacity and flexibility to work independently and collaboratively with others
    • Applicants must have a passion for books and possess an enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and kind spirit

    Compensation:

    Annual salary is $65,000 to $80,000 depending on experience.

    This is a full-time position based in New York City with a two day per week in-office requirement through the four-month probationary period. After the probationary period, there is a flexible in-office/remote hybrid schedule.

    NBF’s benefits package includes health and dental insurance with employer covered premiums at 90%, as well as vision, Short-Term & Long-Term Disability, and Paid Family Leave benefits. After one year of employment, NBF matches a 6% maximum of the employee’s 403(b) contribution. NBF provides 22 days paid time off per year, in addition to observing holidays, Summer Fridays and closing the office between Christmas Day and New Years Day.
