About RLC
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is a nonprofit organization committed to fighting food insecurity and preventing wasted food. We have cultivated a network of dedicated food rescuers who bring food directly from our donors to nonprofit organizations, letting neighbors help neighbors while reaping the environmental and economic benefits of reducing wasted food. Founded in 2013, our simple but elegant model has redistributed over 22 million pounds of food cumulatively. Each year, RLC rescues over 2 million pounds of food — 70% of it at the food manufacturer level — arranging rescues from manufacturers to local nonprofits across 16 states, with matching and facilitation handled by a full-time operations team.
Position
RLC is seeking an experienced sales executive to grow our existing food donor network, particularly in donations from food manufacturing. Clients include national retailers like Sprouts and Kind Bar, as well as regional manufacturers that donate shelf-stable foods, produce, drinks, and other types of food.
The ideal candidate will have their own network of food manufacturers to sell into, a proven track record of closing deals at the manufacturer or CPG level, and the ability and experience to do cold outreach via networking, in-person activity, emails, calls, and attending relevant trade shows. Experience selling into food manufacturing, CPG, or large-scale food rescue operations is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Grow RLC's large-scale food donor network by signing on new food and beverage manufacturers
- Build and convert pipeline through outreach and relationship development
- Participate in quarterly in-person meetings as mutually agreed
- Track all outreach, pipeline activity, and results in Salesforce (training provided)
- All credited revenue and pounds must represent new partnerships outside of the existing pipeline
Workload Guidance
To help scope this engagement, RLC's experience suggests that meeting the performance goals typically requires approximately:
- 50 new leads added to Salesforce per week
- Consistent pipeline activity documented in Salesforce throughout the engagement
These figures are benchmarks based on what has worked for others in similar roles — not prescribed methods or contractual requirements. You determine the approach that works best for you.
Compensation & Performance Goals
- Flat fee: $12,500 for the 3-month contract engagement ($50,000 annualized)
- Incentive bonus: Up to $12,500 for the 3-month period ($50,000 annualized), pro-rated based on incremental pounds rescued beyond the performance goal
- Total on-target earnings: Up to $25,000 for the 3-month period ($100,000 annualized) based on full performance achievement
- Compensation is paid as independent contractor fees; contractor is responsible for applicable self-employment taxes
- Compensation structure and performance metrics will be reviewed at the 90-day mark
Target goals for the 3-month engagement:
- 250,000 lbs of food rescued (pro-rated from 1,000,000 lb annual goal)
- Active and growing pipeline with documented outreach activity in Salesforce
These goals serve as the basis for evaluating contract extension or conversion to a full-time role. As an independent contractor, you retain full discretion over how, when, and where you work to achieve these results.
