Position Summary
The Restorative Justice (RJ) Coordinator is a full-time position responsible for building and sustaining a restorative culture and systems across The Workshop School community. This role works directly with students, staff, and school leadership to prevent harm, repair relationships, and create the conditions for a thriving school community. The RJ Coordinator leads restorative interventions, coaches and trains staff, and collaborates with leadership to design and implement school-wide culture-building systems.
Core Responsibilities
Restorative Practice & Intervention
- Facilitate restorative circles, mediations, and other restorative interventions involving students, staff, and/or families.
- Serve as a first responder for conflict and harm, leading restorative processes that prioritize accountability, healing, and relationship repair.
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation of cases and outcomes.
- Provide follow-up support to participants after restorative processes to ensure ongoing accountability and care.
Staff Training & Support
- Design and deliver professional development to help staff build and sustain restorative classroom cultures.
- Coach individual teachers and teams in integrating restorative language, practices, and structures into their daily work with students.
- Serve as a resource and thought partner for staff navigating challenging relational dynamics in the classroom.
School-Wide Culture & Systems
- Partner with school leadership to design and refine systems of restorative intervention, including proactive, tiered approaches to support student behavior and community health.
- Contribute to school-wide culture-building initiatives, including community circles, advisory programming, and whole-school events.
Qualifications
Required
- Formal training in restorative justice and/or restorative practices (certificate, coursework, or equivalent credentialing).
- Minimum of three years of experience working directly with youth.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and relationships simultaneously.
- High level of emotional intelligence, with the ability to hold space for complex, emotionally charged situations with care and clarity.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the belief that all young people are capable of growth and change.
Strongly Preferred
- Experience working in high school settings.
- Experience in youth development programs or community-based organizations.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practice and its application in school or youth-serving contexts.
Work Environment
This is an in-person, school-based role. The RJ Coordinator is an active member of The Workshop School community and should expect to engage fully in the life of the school, including attendance at school events, community circles, and staff meetings. Some early morning, evening, or weekend availability may be required for community programming.
