    Overview

    Bilingual Family Resource Specialist – 30+ hours/week

Greater Philadelphia Region/Eastern PA | Remote or Hybrid (Philadelphia Office)

The PEAL Center is PA's statewide Parent Training and Information Center and supports families of children with disabilities by providing information, resources, and training. We believe informed families are powerful partners in helping children learn, grow, and belong. The PEAL Center is hiring a 30+ hours/week Bilingual Family Resource Specialist to join our team. We are looking for a parent or caregiver of a child with disabilities and or complex healthcare needs. This position is based in the greater Philadelphia region/Eastern PA and can be fully remote or hybrid with time in our Philadelphia office.

In this role, we believe lived experience matters. We are also looking for someone who values inclusive education and believes all children should learn, belong, and succeed alongside their peers. The insight and perspective that come from navigating systems as a parent are not just valuable, they are essential. We are looking for someone who can draw on that experience to connect with families, and share information in a way that makes sense as they make decisions for their children.

This position requires fluency in both English and Spanish. Spanish may be your first language. Many of the families we support communicate primarily in Spanish, and we are committed to making sure they can access information, ask questions, and feel understood in the language they are most comfortable using.

This work requires more than language. It requires the ability to build trust with families, understand the experiences they bring, and communicate in ways that feel respectful and relevant. For many families, trust is built through shared language, cultural understanding, and lived experience. We are looking for someone who is familiar with or connected to the communities we serve and who understands the importance of relationships and trust when supporting families.

You will support families by providing clear, unbiased information about special education, rights, and available options. A big part of the role is helping families make sense of complex systems, think through challenges, and find a path forward that works for them and their child. We are also looking for someone who values strong relationships, communicates clearly, and believes deeply in equitable access to education.

    What you will do:

    • Provide families with accurate, accessible information about special education rights, services, and supports
    • Offer practical strategies and problem-solving support to help families navigate challenges
    • Communicate with families in English and Spanish to ensure meaningful access
    • Share resources, follow up with families, and maintain organized documentation
    • Represent PEAL through trainings, workshops, and community outreach
    • Stay current on laws, policies, and best practices related to children with disabilities
    • Build relationships with schools, community organizations, and partners

    What we are looking for

    • Fluency in English and Spanish, including the ability to speak, read, and write in both languages
    • Knowledge of and experience with special education systems and laws such as IDEA, ESEA, ADA, PA Code 14 and the rights and entitlements they provide.
    • Strong communication, listening, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to connect with families in a respectful, strengths-based way
    • Understanding of or experience working with diverse communities
    • Comfort using technology including Microsoft Office and databases
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

    Requirements

    • High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • At least two years of related experience
    • Experience supporting families or working in education, community services, or a related field
    • Ability to travel within Pennsylvania as needed
    • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance if travel is required
    • Required clearances (Act 33, Act 34, FBI) or willingness to obtain them
