    Descrição

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is a nonpartisan research and policy institute that advances federal and state policies to help build a nation where everyone — regardless of income, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ZIP code, immigration status, or disability status — has the resources they need to thrive and share in the nation’s prosperity.

CBPP combines rigorous research and analysis, strategic communications, and effective advocacy to shape debates, affect policy, and inform effective implementation both nationally and in states. It works closely with a broad set of national, state, and community organizations to design and advance policies that promote economic justice; improve health; broaden opportunity in areas like housing, health care, employment, and education; and lower structural barriers for people of color and other communities that face systemic barriers to opportunity. CBPP promotes policies to build a more equitable nation and fair tax policies that can support these gains over the long term. CBPP also shows the harmful impacts of policies and proposals that would deepen poverty, widen disparities, and worsen health outcomes.

The Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EIB) Fellow provides general coordination and logistical support for EIB programs and initiatives. This role works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support, coordinate, and manage a range of equity, inclusion, and belonging projects, trainings, and related activities.

The Fellow will sit on the Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EIB) team and help build staff capacity to effectively integrate EIB concepts, theories, tools, and strategies into their professional practice. Key responsibilities include supporting and coordinating EIB initiatives; supporting CBPP’s growing affinity group program; co-designing and facilitating staff trainings and community-building activities; assisting with the facilitation and coordination of the New Staff Equity and Inclusion (E&I) Orientation and the Racial Equity Activity and Discussion (READ) Intern Program curriculum; and supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of assessment and evaluation efforts.

    Responsibilities:

    Strategy, Research, and Organizational Learning

    • Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and in collaboration with the EIB team, design and implement strategic frameworks and assessment tools that support program development, internal culture change, and equity-aligned behaviors and skills.
    • Assist the EIB team in strategic planning efforts by collaborating to build, evaluate, and refine goals and work plans to support CBPP becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization. Some of these priorities include:
      • Coordinating and managing CBPP’s climate assessment efforts in collaboration with the EIB and Human Resources teams.
      • Conducting research on theoretical and practical equity-centered approaches, theories, best practices, and frameworks.
      • Participating in the development of key benchmarks and metrics of progress, ongoing assessments, reporting mechanisms, and other accountability measures alongside the Deputy Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging to ensure concepts of EIB are incorporated throughout CBPP.
    • Support CBPP’s EIB team in the implementation and change management processes for new equity initiatives as needed.

    Program Design and Support

    • Assist the Deputy Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in co-developing curriculum and facilitation support for CBPP’s READ Intern Program, which engages CBPP interns in EIB skill development.
    • Support CBPP’s affinity group program by assisting the Deputy Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and Director of Equity, Belonging, and Internal Communications with the development of group policies and protocols, leadership development efforts, and program planning.
    • Support efforts to increase institutional knowledge and capacity for CBPP staff, for example, by coordinating and facilitating internal training on topics related to equity, inclusion, and belonging.
    • Collaborate with the Deputy Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and Director of Equity, Belonging, and Internal Communications in advising the affinity groups on strategic approaches that support group sustainability and align with CBPP’s internal priorities, processes, and policies.
    • Support the coordination and management of CBPP’s EIB orientation experience for new staff.

    Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Building

    • Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders supporting CBPP’s EIB priorities and initiatives through regular communication, appropriate meetings, and follow through on collaborative projects.
    • Represent CBPP on internal workgroups and partnerships to provide feedback and collaboration on equity, inclusion, and belonging work and perspectives.

    Communications, Reporting, and Knowledge Sharing

    • Support the drafting and editing of reports and presentations on the CBPP’s EIB journey and work.
    • Perform other job-related duties within the role’s scope as assigned to support the team’s goals.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and two years of full-time experience working in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives or related positions, preferably within a nonprofit, educational, or similar organization or an advanced degree in a related field.
    • Knowledge and sensitivity to equity, positionality, and intersectionality, including historic and structural barriers to the advancement of diverse people and communities, and how these factors can operate in a workplace.
    • Research and analysis experience around equity theories, professional standards, best practices, and inclusive organizational approaches.
    • Outstanding written and oral communication skills with the ability to synthesize racial equity practices effectively, persuasively, and creatively to diverse stakeholders.
    • Ability to support the development and facilitation of EIB-focused training to staff from various professional backgrounds.
    • Capacity to work effectively with staff at all levels and a willingness to learn how to facilitate challenging conversations, build rapport, mediate disputes, and collaborate and uplift diverse constituencies.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and PowerPoint, is required.
    • Demonstrated capacity to work on multiple complex and detail-oriented projects, often on a time-sensitive basis, and work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
    • Demonstrated experience and success participating in and supporting organizational change processes, especially as they relate to EIB.
    • Demonstrated commitment to CBPP’s mission of reducing poverty and improving the lives of communities of color with low incomes through policy work.
    • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally (estimated 10 percent).
