    About the organization

    At the AIDS Center of Queens County (ACQC), our mission is to prevent HIV, STIs, and other chronic illnesses, and promote health and wellness in the communities we serve. This is accomplished by providing health education and intervention services using a harm reduction approach and evidence-based practices in a friendly, respectful, and culturally sensitive environment.

    About This Role

    ACQC is seeking Health Education Program Coordinator to oversee YMSM (Young Men who have Sex with Men) at risk for HIV, HCV, and STIs. The program goals are to provide comprehensive services that include testing, education, prevention, and other related services, specifically to communities of color.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Manage and oversee day-to-day program activities.
    • Supervision of all program staff.
    • Conduct on-going needs assessment including a review of the characteristics, statistics, and data to develop or design services that are specific, sensitive and culturally relevant to the target populations.
    • Conduct chart reviews and evaluations.
    • Coordinate case conferences in collaboration with the Program Director.
    • Conduct monthly meetings with staff.
    • Ensure training for program staff is up to date and meets program and agency requirements.
    • Provide individual health and education and risk reduction counseling to program clients/peers.
    • Facilitate health education and risk reduction counseling groups to assist clients with planning, achieving, and maintaining positive behavioral change.
    • Recruit, supervise and train peer educators.
    • Conduct presentations/lectures in the community to increase awareness, build general support for safe behaviors, support personal risk-reduction efforts, and/or provide general information about programs and services available such as PrEP/PEP.
    • Coordinate program activities with other community-based organizations.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client/peer charts.
    • Oversee data entry, ensuring that program data is entered correctly and in a timely manner.
    • Monitor and assist with social media activities.
    • Submit weekly program progress reporting and monthly narrative of program activities.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education and Prevention.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field required (i.e., public health or social work); Master’s degree preferred.
    • Must have 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
    • Driver’s license in good standing
    • Must be flexible with schedule, willing to work long days, evenings, and weekends.
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of HIV/STIs and other related issues.
    • Strong organizational skills are required.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Fluent in one or more targeted community languages (Spanish preferred)
    • Must be culturally competent and able to work with non-traditional backgrounds in terms of gender identity and sexuality, and able to convey sensitivity and non-judgement in all communications.

    The Health Education Program Coordinator position is a full-time, exempt position, based in Woodside, Queens near the LIRR and #7 trains. The ideal candidate for the Health Education Program Coordinator position will have strong supervisory and organizational skills, and a passion for health education specifically around HIV, STIs and general health and well-being.
