    Position Description:

We are excited to continue to build our Program and Services team. We’re looking for our next incredible Education Coordinator who is creative and has a can-do attitude. If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves and getting things done, you’ll likely be a great fit. We’re looking for an experienced peer (an individual living with a mental health challenge) OR a family member of someone living with a mental health challenge who is passionate about community outreach and education. Someone who can punch above their weight.

You have respect and compassion for individuals and families affected by mental illness. You will oversee and supervise all peer-led educational programs for people living with mental health issues as well as their families/supporters. You will manage the delivery of one of the most important mental health messages to New Yorkers — You are not alone; NAMI-NYC is here for you.

You’re a problem solver who embraces change and thrives in a fast-paced work setting. As part of a committed team, you will be primarily responsible for directly administering and coordinating three NAMI Signature education classes: Basics, Family to Family and Peer to Peer, as well as Public Education events. NAMI-NYC’s education programs provide much needed support and knowledge to people living with mental illness as well as their families. This position will coordinate all aspects of these classes and will work closely with the Education Specialist to ensure the successful roll out of classes throughout the year, as well as work collaboratively with the entire programs and services team and the larger NAMI-NYC staff to advance programmatic strategic goals.

The sky is the limit, and new ideas are not only welcomed but encouraged. We can’t wait to see what our next Education Coordinator can do.

    Your Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation may be coordinated to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    • Plan and coordinate all logistics related to scheduling educational classes in collaboration with the Senior Education Specialist (e.g. ensuring classes are being held on a regular basis throughout the year, arranging zoom links, set up in-person classrooms, track class attendance spreadsheets, send weekly reminders, etc.)
    • Oversee progress of classes to ensure they are filling to capacity
    • Screen via email and/or phone calls and register all prospective participants prior to class start date
    • Enter program data in the internal and external database(s) and report data regularly
    • Complete and maintain documentation related to all classes and participants in Salesforce
    • Manage stipend process for teachers
    • Coordinate distribution of class materials and zoom details for virtual classes to all participants and teachers
    • Order class materials from NAMI-NYS
    • Work with the Communications Department to promote all classes in emails, newsletter and social media as well as the NAMI-NYC website
    • Send notification and report forms to NAMI-NYS before and after classes
    • Ensure Helpline and Community Outreach Coordinator are up to date on class availability
    • Distribute pre- and post-evaluations for all classes and track completion
    • Conduct impact survey and create annual impact report for Family-to-Family program
    • Plan and coordinate logistics for Public Education events (recruit/invite speakers; schedule tech rehearsals; coordinate promotion with Communications team; schedule Zoom; host/moderate event)
    • Coordinate new educational classes as these are launched
    • Attend internal and external meetings
    • Other duties as assigned

    Your Qualifications:

    • You possess a bachelor's degree, preferably in a human service related field.
    • You have 3+ years’ experience in a social service setting
    • You have experience in program and volunteer coordination
    • You are proficient in the use of personal computers, Zoom and Microsoft applications and electronic record keeping systems (Salesforce)
    • You have strong outreach and relationship building skills, are detail-oriented and possess strong administrative and organizational skills
    • Ideally, you speak more than one language- bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
