    Descrição

At KidSpirit, we believe in the power of youth voice to create a better future for us all. As an online magazine and community by, and for, teens to explore life’s big questions, our mission is to promote mutual understanding and global citizenship between 11- to 17-year-olds of all backgrounds. From our homebase in New York City, we work with teens across the country and around the world, with youth-led groups in 16 countries and counting.

We are looking for an Editorial and Communications Assistant to join our small-but-mighty, mission-driven team. Please look at KidSpirit’s website (kidspiritonline.com) to get to know our vision and work.

This is an ideal position for a friendly, detail-oriented and organized person with strong communication skills and a commitment to helping youth around the world connect, grow, and thrive. The position will entail coordinating with and conveying feedback to young writers, crafting newsletters, managing social media, and supporting the team with fundraising efforts and other administrative tasks.

This position is a great fit for you if you enjoy working both independently and collaboratively, and are enthusiastic about learning new skills with a small team. This is a part-time salaried position, with potential for growth into a full-time role over time.

To be considered for the position, submit your resume and at least two references, along with a cover letter demonstrating your interest and understanding of KidSpirit’s mission.

    • A bachelor’s degree and minimum of one year’s relevant experience—teaching or editorial experience is preferred.
    • Must reside in the New York City area. KidSpirit employees work primarily from home, but applicants must reside in the NYC Metro Area and be available for weekly in-person meetings.
    • Comfort and experience working with youth.
    • Enthusiasm and commitment to KidSpirit’s mission.
    • Integrity and reliability.
    • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail; must be able to proactively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Willingness to take initiative and demonstrate creative problem solving abilities.
    • Strong time management skills with ability to set priorities and communicate about progress.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with a team.
    • Availability to work one Sunday per month.

    Responsibilities:

    Editorial

    • Helping to facilitate and bring supplies for monthly in person meetings with KidSpirit’s all-youth New York Editorial Board.
    • Communicating Editorial Board’s feedback and revisions to young authors.
    • Coordinating with editors and independent contributors about submissions, deadlines, recruitment, and programming.
    • Helping to coordinate KidSpirit’s annual Global Summit, a daylong conference for contributors and editors from across the globe.
    • Assisting with the annual KidSpirit Awards by sending announcements to winners, gathering award-winner information, and organizing microgrant applications.
    • Coordinating and leading online writing and editing workshops with teen participants.
    • Supporting alumni with quarterly online Alumni Council meetings and attending as a note-taker.

    Communications

    • Drafting and sending newsletters.
    • Generating and managing content for all social media channels and assisting our Digital Marketing Advisor as needed.
    • Communicating with all members of the KidSpirit team to ensure the organization is operating as efficiently as possible.
    • Assisting the Executive Director with emails and other communications.
    • Assisting with outreach for KidSpirit events.

Administration and Development in support of the Executive Director and Director of Operations & Development

    • Managing the office calendar, as well as weekly agendas and task lists.
    • Assisting with necessary administrative tasks including preparation for board meetings.
    • Assisting with all donor outreach and cultivation efforts, including direct mailings, appeals, newsletters, and social media.
