Your Vision. Their Leadership Journey. One Extraordinary Role.

Do you believe every young person deserves the chance to discover their strengths, explore the outdoors, and lead with confidence? Are you a bold, strategic leader who can bring people, programs, and purpose together to create unforgettable experiences? If so, Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital invites you to join our executive team as our next Chief Experience Officer (CXO).

    About the Role

The CXO is the architect of our member experience, responsible for shaping and delivering an inspiring, inclusive, and impactful Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) to thousands of youth and adult members across our diverse region. From first troop meetings to leadership adventures, from campfires to STEM labs, the CXO ensures that every touchpoint strengthens engagement, fosters belonging, and helps Girl Scouts thrive.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the CXO leads a talented, cross-functional team spanning Membership, Programs, and Volunteer Engagement—driving strategies that grow participation, enhance program excellence, and support the volunteers who make Girl Scouting possible. You’ll collaborate across the organization to align vision and operations, ensuring our mission is lived out in every troop, event, and camp session.

    What You’ll Do

    • Lead with Vision: Partner with the CEO and executive team to shape the council’s strategy, turning big ideas into practical plans that deliver measurable growth and impact.
    • Grow and Retain Membership: Develop data-driven, community-focused strategies to recruit and retain youth and adult members across all neighborhoods we serve.
    • Champion Volunteers: Strengthen the full volunteer journey—from recruitment and training to recognition and retention—so our volunteers feel supported, empowered, and valued.
    • Innovate in Program Design: Oversee dynamic programs in STEM, outdoors, entrepreneurship, and life skills that are culturally relevant, outcomes-driven, and accessible to all.
    • Foster Collaboration: Work closely with Marketing, Philanthropy, Finance, and Operations to maximize resources, elevate visibility, and secure funding for mission delivery.
    • Build an Inclusive Culture: Ensure all programs and member experiences reflect our deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

    What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking an experienced, mission-driven leader who thrives on innovation and collaboration, and who can translate strategic goals into exceptional member experiences. The ideal candidate will be:

    • Mission-Aligned: Passionate about empowering youth and engaging communities.
    • Strategic and Results-Oriented: Skilled at using data and market insights to guide decisions, measure outcomes, and achieve ambitious goals.
    • A Culture Builder: Committed to fostering trust, belonging, and shared purpose across teams and with stakeholders.
    • Operationally Excellent: Experienced in leading complex, cross-functional teams and managing resources with discipline and transparency.
    • Relationship-Driven: Adept at forging strong partnerships with volunteers, families, donors, and community leaders.

    Qualifications

    • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in youth development, education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
    • Proven track record in designing and leading membership, programmatic, or volunteer systems.
    • Experience managing high-performing teams, with a focus on coaching and accountability.
    • Strong data fluency and comfort with CRM platforms (Salesforce experience a plus).
    • Demonstrated financial and operational acumen.
    • A deep commitment to advancing equity and access in all areas of work.
