    Reports to: Executive Director

    Work Locations: Queens, New York; Some remote work available

    Position Summary: The Executive Assistant to the Museum Director assists her in any and all aspects of her role, and facilitates a smooth and streamlined process for individuals interacting with the Director and with the Museum as a whole. This role may also take a significant support role on special projects within the ED’s portfolio.

    Compensation: $48,000 – $50,000 Commensurate to experience. LAHM’s benefits include medical insurance, 401(k), and paid time off

    Mission Statement: The Louis Armstrong House Museum (LAHM) sustains and promotes the cultural, historical, and humanitarian legacy of Louis Armstrong by preserving and interpreting Armstrong’s house and grounds, collecting and sharing archival materials that document Armstrong’s life and legacy, developing programs for the public that educate and inspire, and engaging with contemporary artists to create performances and new works.

    In 2024 the museum was awarded the National Medal for Museums from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. In 2025 the museum became a member of New York City’s Cultural Institutions Group – 39 cultural institutions in formal partnership with the city.

    The Executive Assistant’s responsibilities include:

    • supporting the executive director in all duties assigned
    • calendaring and email support
    • planning and supporting events
    • conducting prospect research and setting up prospect meetings
    • supporting communications efforts
    • office management
    • support special projects
    • share the Armstrong legacy

    Administrative Support to the Museum Director:

    • Perform all administrative support duties for the Museum Director, including but not limited to maintaining files, correspondence, calls, manage calendar, and schedule appointments. Maintain confidentiality in all matters.
    • Help support the Board of Trustees
    • Help support fundraising efforts
    • Event planning support including the annual Gala and events in the Center.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Special Projects in the Director’s Portfolio

    • With direction from the Museum Director, support special projects including research, recommending, and taking action on various issues. Current projects may include:
      • Armstrong in Ghana exhibition and programming
      • The Jazz and Hip Hop Map of Queens
      • Corona Collection documentary
      • Archiving the Museum
      • Celebrating the Anniversary of What a Wonderful World

    Share the Armstrong Legacy

    • Learn and deliver the historic house tour to museum guests and guests of the Director
    • Prepare and deliver communication materials to share the Armstrong legacy
    • Become familiar with the museum’s customer relations management database and update as needed

    Office Management:

    • Help manage the Museum calendar and phone system.
    • Maintain office supplies.
    • Supervise the maintenance of office equipment, including copier/printer.
    • Supervise maintenance of office areas.

    We are looking for someone who is meticulous, collaborative, and creative. Ideal qualifications include:

    • Highly responsive, responsible, and meticulous
    • Flexible, resourceful, and proactive
    • Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
    • Excellent office and computer skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills, adept at prioritizing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines required.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
    • Requires exceptional confidentiality and trustworthiness.
    • Willingness to take initiative and able to work independently as well as with a team
    • Knowledge of jazz, civil rights, and Louis Armstrong as an American icon is a plus
    • Bilingual a plus

    Hours: 40 hours per week (Full Time). Monday – Friday

    Accommodating to weekend and evening events, as needed

    Some remote work available
