    The National Book Foundation (NBF), presenter of the National Book Awards, is seeking a full-time Education Programs Manager to join our small and dynamic team. This position will report to the Director of Programs & Partnerships and work closely across a three-person programs team, providing essential project management and success of NBF’s slate of Education programs.

    NBF’s literary programs leverage the organization’s long-standing relationships with publishers, authors, and a host of community partners to reach readers of all ages both locally in NYC and across the country. Education programs include: Book Rich Environments, a large-scale book giveaway program that serves public housing communities; BookUp, a direct service after-school reading program; NBF Teacher Fellowship, which supports 6th–12th grade teachers who make reading for pleasure a part of the school day; and Teens Read the National Book Awards, an annual event for young people celebrating current Young People’s Literature honorees.

    The ideal start date for this position is August 2025. This is a full-time position based in New York City and operates on a flexible hybrid in-office/remote schedule. Some evening and weekend work is required; some travel is required.

    Responsibilities

    • Steward existing education programs that serve a diverse network of national audiences
    • Track programmatic timelines, calendars, and logistics
    • Track expenses, and oversee program fiscal year and grant budgets
    • Create and manage internal and external program materials
    • Coordinate itineraries, one-sheets, and travel booking with the Production Manager
    • Collaborate with the communications and marketing team on the content and design of education-related announcements, outreach materials, press releases, and web updates
    • Advise on and oversee the creation of educational materials, such as the Teacher Toolkit
    • Serve as the lead point person for contractual Teaching Artists
    • Support logistics and outreach for a variety of events, including conducting relevant research, maintaining event details, coordinating with partners, and spearheading audience development; represent the Foundation at events as needed
    • Organize and track supplies and materials, including a large volume of book orders, donations, and shipments
    • Create surveys, data, and analysis in collaboration with ongoing development, fundraising, and reporting efforts
    • Collaborate with the Director of Programs & Partnerships on education program goal setting in alignment with the Foundation’s year-round portfolio and strategic plan
    • Other duties as assigned

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Experience working with young people and/or K–12 students and educators is required, working with diverse communities is preferred
    • Ability to manage the day-to-day operations of partnerships, including project management, communication, and performance tracking
    • Experience with event planning, including logistics coordination, talent and vendor management, and budget oversight
    • Ability to manage educational program database and systems and accompanying administrative responsibilities
    • 4-6 years with relevant experience in arts and cultural and/or nonprofit administration
    • Extremely organized, communicative, detail-oriented, proactive, and deadline-conscious, with an ability to balance multiple and overlapping project timelines
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills with an ability to tailor messaging for internal and external audiences; copyediting experience is a strong plus
    • Applicants should demonstrate a capacity and flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively with others
    • Applicants must have a passion for books and possess an enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and kind spirit

    Compensation:

    Salary is $65,000-$75,000 depending on experience.

    This is a full-time position based in New York City with a two day per week in-office requirement through the four-month probationary period. After the probationary period, there is a flexible in-office/remote hybrid schedule.

    The National Book Foundation’s benefits package includes health and dental insurance with employer covered premiums at 90%, as well as vision, Short-Term & Long-Term Disability, and Paid Family Leave benefits. After one year of employment, NBF matches a 6% maximum of the employee’s 403(b) contribution. NBF provides 22 days paid time off per year, in addition to observing holidays, Summer Fridays and closing the office between Christmas Day and New Years Day.
