Signature Theatre, a Tony Award-winning, LORT B theater in the Washington DC metro area, seeks an
experienced and detail-oriented Director of Finance and Administration to support the organization in financial
stewardship, planning, analysis, risk management and human resources functions as a member of the
theater’s Senior Staff.
The ideal candidate will have high-level nonprofit financial and operations management experience including
financial reporting, projections, and cash flow forecasting. The position requires strong strategic and analytical
skills and a firm understanding of non-profit accounting standards and operating procedures. Candidate will
provide strong leadership and development opportunities to a staff of three.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain responsibility for all financial records
- Direct and manage day-to-day accounting operations including A/R, A/P, reconciliations, cash
management and maintenance of the general ledger
- Oversee Human Resources, including hiring, onboarding, benefits administration and payroll
- Prepare and monitor budgets and projections with senior management
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting
- Develop budgets and projections to support grant applications and reports and maintain accurate records
for contributed revenue (restricted/unrestricted grants, multi-year pledges, foundation and government
grants, NPV etc)
- Conduct financial planning and analysis to support organizational budgeting and priority-setting
- Protect assets and ensure financial accuracy by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and
procedures and internal controls
- Coordinate and lead the external audit and tax return processes, liaise with accountants and the Finance
Committee of the Board of Directors
- Ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Manage banking relationships and lead all financial account management
- File and pay organizational taxes, including for meals, sales, real estate and tangible property
- Manage asset schedules and property tax return
- Preside over all organizational insurance and workers compensation packages
- Manage all permits and licenses including business licenses, sales tax exemptions, Food and Restaurant
permits, liquor license, solicitation of contributions permits etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have:
- Five or more years in a senior position responsible for 501(c)3 nonprofit financial management, with
working knowledge of GAAP, audits, bookkeeping, and relevant regulatory requirements
- Expert computer skills in QuickBooks (or similar), payroll software (ADP or similar) and MS Office, with
advanced Excel capabilities, and aptitude for adopting new software and technology tools
- Prior work in a performing arts environment, including experience with labor unions
- Strong strategic and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and
work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Proven ability to lead, inspire, and sustain staff in a high-demand industry, fostering a culture of
resilience and purpose

COMPENSATION
The Director of Finance & Administration is a full time, annual exempt position with a salary in the $100,000 to
$110,000 range. Signature Theatre offers an excellent package of benefits, including medical,

complimentary and discount tickets. Signature Theatre is also a qualifying employer for the Public Service
Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).
LOCATION AND IN-OFFICE REQUIREMENTS
Due to the nature of the work, this position works primarily on-site at the organization’s main facility in
Arlington, VA, but the position does allow for some remote work as agreed upon with the Managing Director.
The administrative office hours are 10am-6pm, Monday through Friday.
