POSITION SUMMARY:
Pinewood School is seeking a creative, versatile, and collaborative professional to join our team as a Communications & Content Associate for a six-month temporary, part-time position covering an employee leave starting in mid-September to early-October.
Working closely with the Director of Strategic Marketing & Community Outreach, this position will support the development and coordination of communications across the school’s internal and external channels. The primary focus will be on writing, editing, social media content, and day-to-day communications support.
The ideal candidate is an excellent writer with strong organizational skills, good judgment, and an ability to adapt messaging for different audiences. Familiarity with social media, basic photography, short-form video, and simple graphic design is helpful, but the role does not require advanced expertise in every area of content creation.
SCHEDULE & WORK ARRANGEMENT:
This is a 0.5 FTE position, approximately 20 hours per week, for a six-month temporary assignment. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with Fridays serving as the regular in-person workday on campus. The remaining hours may be worked remotely, with the schedule coordinated with the Director of Strategic Marketing & Community Outreach based on department and school needs. Occasional evening or weekend availability will be expected to support select school events, performances, athletic activities, or other community events, with advance notice whenever possible.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communications & Project Support
- Serve as a first point of coordination for communications requests from faculty, staff, and school departments.
- Help intake, organize, prioritize, and track communications projects and requests.
- Draft, edit, and proofread communications for students, families, faculty, and staff.
- Provide copywriting support for newsletters, announcements, web content, emails, event materials, social media, and other school communications.
- Help ensure communications are clear, consistent, timely, and aligned with Pinewood’s voice and brand.
- Assist with communications calendars, project timelines, and general coordination.
- Assist with special projects and campaigns throughout the school year.
Social Media & Content Creation
- Support Pinewood’s social media channels by developing and scheduling engaging, authentic content.
- Write social media captions and adapt existing content for different platforms and audiences.
- Help identify school stories, accomplishments, student experiences, and community moments that may be appropriate for social media.
- Capture photos and short-form video content at select school events and activities, as needed.
- Create and edit short-form social content, including Reels and other video formats.
- Maintain an organized library of photos and other visual content.
Basic Graphic Design & Brand Support
- Create or adapt simple graphics and visual assets for newsletters, social media, presentations, events, and internal communications.
- Make basic edits to existing branded templates and materials.
- Help ensure communications consistently reflect Pinewood’s visual identity and brand standards.
- Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Marketing & Community Outreach on larger or more complex design needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to spend extended periods sitting while using computers and office equipment.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with strong attention to voice, tone, grammar, and detail.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience using project management and team communications platforms like Slack, is a plus.
- Experience creating content for social media platforms, particularly Instagram, and experience using social media content management software is a plus.
- Basic experience with photography and/or short-form video on a smart phone or camera.
- Experience creating Reels or other short-form video content; basic video editing skills preferred.
- Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
- Strong visual sense and an understanding of what makes content engaging and shareable.
- Ability to translate ideas and information into clear, compelling communications for different audiences.
- Collaborative, responsive, and service-oriented approach.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow projects through to completion.
- Comfort working in a dynamic K–12 school environment and interacting professionally with students, families, faculty, and staff.
- Experience in education, schools, nonprofit organizations, or community-based settings is a plus.
COMPENSATION:
The pay range is $40-$60 per hour and will be based on one’s experience and qualifications.
