    THE OPPORTUNITY

At the West End House (WEH), our mission is at the heart of all we do. We provide high-impact programs that support youth as they achieve academic success, explore the arts, develop career readiness and leadership skills, and adopt healthy lifestyles. We are committed to advancing racial equity through our work and throughout all aspects of our organization—our youth programs, our community and family engagement, and our board and leadership.

To deliver on this mission, West End House is committed to recruiting, developing, and retaining a team of dedicated and talented staff. Our employees reflect and build upon our values—opportunity for all, youth first, joy, equity, and community.

As a nonprofit, our ability to deliver high-quality programming depends on our deep relationships with individuals, institutions, and alumni. Volunteers and partners play a critical role in enhancing programs, building connections, and expanding our reach.

As Community Engagement Coordinator, you will lead and manage initiatives to cultivate meaningful relationships with volunteers, alumni, and community partners—with a special focus on recruiting new corporate volunteer groups, managing WEH's Boston Marathon Charity Team and re-engaging West End House alumni. You will be the primary point of contact for community and volunteer relations and will work closely with the Senior Director of Philanthropy to implement engagement strategies and financial partnerships that strengthen our community and build a pipeline from engagement to sustained support. You will also support communications and outreach through targeted social media efforts that recruit, highlight, and celebrate volunteers, alumni, and partners.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Volunteer, Alumni, and Corporate Engagement

      • Proactively recruit, cultivate, and steward relationships with individual volunteers, corporate volunteer groups, and alumni, placing them in meaningful and strategic roles across programs and events
      • Lead outreach to identify and engage new corporate partners, with a dual focus on providing impactful volunteer experiences and cultivating long-term philanthropic relationships
      • Recruit, manage and engage Boston Marathon Charity team to ensure each runner meets their fundraising goal and 50% of the team continues to support the West End House after completing the April race
      • Develop and implement strategies to reconnect alumni through volunteering, mentorship, speaking engagements, and giving
      • Facilitate pathways that transition alumni into active volunteers and donors, and volunteer groups—especially from corporations—into long-term institutional funders
      • Identify opportunities for youth to engage with alumni and corporate volunteers through job shadows, career panels, and enrichment experiences
      • Design inclusive training and onboarding experiences for all volunteers, rooted in equity, inclusion, and social justice values
      • Maintain and regularly update a comprehensive volunteer and alumni database, tracking participation and pathways to giving

    Social Media and Communications

      • Develop and implement social media strategies that drive recruitment and recognize the contributions of volunteers, alumni, and corporate partners
      • Share compelling stories of impact, community, and engagement to build awareness and affinity
      • Collaborate with the Development and Program teams to create communications that inspire deeper involvement and long-term investment

    Program and Academic Support

      • Lead the West End House volunteer tutoring program by matching youth with diverse, skilled volunteers aligned with academic and social-emotional needs
      • Build trusting relationships with youth and collaborate with program staff to ensure volunteer support is targeted and meaningful

    WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We welcome applicants with diverse experiences and backgrounds. You’re likely a strong candidate if you have:

      • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident in outreach to individuals and institutions
      • 2+ years of experience in corporate engagement, alumni activation, or volunteer pipeline development
      • Strong organizational and project management skills
      • Familiarity with using social media as a storytelling and recruitment tool
      • A passion for youth development and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusive community-building
