    The Position

    The Kings-Fresno County Outreach Worker will support authentic community engagement efforts that advance CCEJN’s mission and vision through outreach, education, and community-based air monitoring initiatives across the San Joaquin Valley. Based in Kings or Fresno County, this position will focus on implementing activities related to CARB’s CAG Cycle 5 program while working collaboratively with residents, partner organizations, regulatory agencies, and members of the Air and Climate Team to measure, analyze, and communicate local air quality data in frontline communities. The Outreach Worker will report to the Air and Climate Program Manager and support additional duties as assigned. This is a temporary, grant-funded position currently funded for one year, with the possibility of extension based on continued funding availability.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support implementation of a regional air quality education campaign focused on PM and ozone pollution.
    • Conduct community outreach and education on pollution sources, health impacts, and protective measures.
    • Scheduling tabling events to distribute outreach materials
    • Assist with development and distribution of bilingual outreach materials in English and Spanish.
    • Participate in train-the-trainer sessions and community education activities.
    • Coordinate outreach efforts, track participation, and support grant reporting requirements.

    Community Capacity Building & Engagement

    • Support community meetings, trainings, and engagement activities
    • Share information about the IVAN network and other CCEJN initiatives with residents
    • Support resident education around air quality and climate issues
    • Support virtual meetings and in-person retreats that promote learning, strategizing, and community participation
    • Maintain participation records, meeting documentation, and engagement tracking for grant reporting
    • Document retreat outcomes and participant feedback

    Key Tasks:

    • Assist with the deployment and maintenance of air quality monitoring equipment and support data collection efforts to identify pollution hotspots near industrial and agricultural operations.
    • Support community engagement and resident training on air monitoring technologies and air quality data interpretation.
    • Assist with the preparation of bilingual (English/Spanish) outreach materials, reports, and educational resources for community and regulatory audiences.
    • Collect and maintain program data for grant reporting and program management while supporting community participation in monitoring efforts.
    • Collaborate with the Air and Climate Justice Team and CCEJN staff to implement community-informed air monitoring strategies across the San Joaquin Valley.

    Required Qualifications

    • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
    • Passion for helping people and supporting community empowerment
    • Experience in community outreach

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Bilingual in English and Spanish
    • Experience working with communities of color, low-income communities, rural communities, and/or other marginalized communities.
    • Experience in and a passion for advancing social and environmental justice.

    Benefícios

    This is a temporary, full-time, grant-funded position with benefits included. Compensation ranges from $24–$26 per hour for 40 hours per week, depending on experience. CCEJN’s full-time benefits include dental, health, vision, and life insurance; paid time off; and professional development assistance.
