About the Project
Author, human rights lawyer, and Christian feminist scholar Allyson McKinney Timm is preparing for the January 2027 publication of If Women’s Lives Were Sacred: Christianity, Human Rights, and the Struggle for Equal Justice, a new book from Bloomsbury Academic.
The book explores the global and domestic realities of gender-based oppression and calls church leaders and faith communities to play a more active role in advancing the dignity, equality, and human rights of women and girls. Child marriage, domestic violence, reproductive coercion, and inequality under the law are each addressed through the interrelated lenses of human rights law, US policy and practice, and Christian social ethics.
We are seeking an experienced, highly organized Author Events & Outreach Coordinator to help expand opportunities for paid speaking engagements, author events, book programs, and other strategically valuable appearances during the months leading up to and following publication.
The author has already developed substantial target lists, relevant relationships, speaker offerings, and core outreach strategy and materials. This role is therefore focused primarily on executing and expanding an existing outreach campaign—turning promising prospects into conversations and bookings through thoughtful outreach, consistent follow-up, and strong pipeline management.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, refine, and selectively expand existing prioritized outreach lists for churches, seminaries and universities, conferences, faith and justice organizations, bookstores, civic organizations, and other potential event hosts.
- Verify and update existing contact information, identify appropriate programming decision-makers, and fill gaps where needed.
- Conduct thoughtful, personalized outreach on the author’s behalf using approved messaging, speaker materials, and other established resources.
- Build upon the author’s existing relationships where appropriate, identifying opportunities for personal outreach or warm introductions by the author.
- Manage timely and persistent follow-up with prospective hosts.
- Track contacts, responses, next steps, and opportunities in a simple outreach spreadsheet.
- Maintain an active pipeline of prospective engagements, prioritizing opportunities based on strategic fit, audience reach, book-sales potential, and potential for paid speaking.
- Flag high-value opportunities that warrant the author’s personal involvement.
- Coordinate introductory calls, scheduling, and routine booking communications, while referring substantive program, fee, or relationship discussions to the author as appropriate.
- Recommend promising new organizations, events, or networks for outreach based on experience and research.
- Coordinate as needed with the author, publisher, and other members of the book-launch team while avoiding duplication of media-publicity or content-marketing efforts.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in author events, publishing, speaker booking, nonprofit outreach, event programming, public relations, partnerships, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct professional external outreach, cultivate relationships, and move prospective opportunities toward concrete next steps.
- Excellent written communication, judgment, organization, and follow-through.
- Comfortable working independently and managing a substantial number of contacts and follow-ups simultaneously.
- Experience with authors, books, speaker programs, or mission-driven organizations strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with progressive faith communities, gender justice, human rights, higher education, or related networks is a plus.
- Existing relationships with event organizers, faith organizations, universities, conferences, bookstores, or speaker-programming contacts are welcome but not required.
Scope
The coordinator will work from an established foundation and will be expected to take substantial ownership of day-to-day outreach, follow-up, and pipeline management. The primary objective is to develop a strong pipeline of strategically valuable engagements, with particular emphasis on paid speaking opportunities, while also recognizing the value of select appearances that offer exceptional audience reach, book-sales potential, visibility, or relationship-building opportunities.
