Position Overview
The Food Hub Coordinator leads the daily operations, partnerships, and performance of Plant It Forward’s Food Hub. This role manages the full flow of produce from farm to buyer — including wholesale orders, farmers markets, CSA programs, and contract-growing logistics — while ensuring efficiency, profitability, and quality at every step.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented leader who thrives in a dynamic environment, balancing logistics coordination with relationship management and creative problem-solving.
Core Responsibilities
- Wholesale & Institutional Partnerships (with Partnerships Director)
- Manage weekly wholesale orders and communication with partners such as Farm to Table, restaurant consortia, and other accounts.
- Support outreach and onboarding of new wholesale buyers.
- Maintain compliance and certification progress (GroupGAP, PACA, FSMA) alongside the CEO.
- Track and analyze wholesale margins, ensuring order accuracy and quality control.
- Farmers Markets & CSA Coordination (with Partnerships Director & Farmers)
- Oversee all farmers market operations, including setup, staffing, and sales performance.
- Ensure each market meets or exceeds four-figure weekly revenue targets.
- Coordinate CSA/Farmshare packing and logistics in partnership with farmers.
- Integrate volunteers to assist with packing and market operations.
- Contract Growing & Production Planning (with Farm Programs Director)
- Align farmers’ crop plans and harvest schedules with wholesale and institutional demand.
- Monitor production and delivery timelines for contract-growing agreements, liaising between farmers and buyers.
- Help guide participating farmers to meet production and quality benchmarks.
- Food Hub Operations & Cost Optimization
- Manage Food Hub logistics: inventory, cold storage, packing, and delivery coordination.
- Supervise Food Hub assistants and volunteers, reallocating hours based on workload.
- Implement cost-saving measures to increase operational efficiency with the CEO.
- Maintain weekly performance tracking for sales, costs, and deliveries.
- Performance-Based Bonus Opportunities (up to 15%)
- 5%: Secure at least one new wholesale client with sales on par with existing major partners.
- 5%: Maintain or exceed consistent four-figure weekly market revenue averages.
- 5%: Streamline Food Hub operations resulting in measurable cost savings or improved margins, in line with the CEO’s identified priorities.
Work Schedule
This position requires regular weekend and occasional evening work to support markets and special events. Flexible scheduling during weekday lull periods is offered to balance total work hours.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in local food systems, supply chain, logistics, or small business operations, including knowledge of crop varieties and ability to differentiate quality in crops
- Strong organizational and relationship-building skills with a hands-on approach.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
- Experience supervising teams or volunteers preferred.
- Comfort working in warehouse, farm, and field environments.
