OVERVIEW
The Student & Campaigns Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Peace Action Fund of New York State (PAFNYS) student organizer program, adapting PAFNYS' external communications into a variety of communications and advocacy platforms, and helping with other programmatic and campaign activities, as necessary. They serve as the main point of contact between students and the Peace Action Fund of New York State (PAFNYS) office. They report to and work closely with the Director of Policy & Outreach.
The PAFNYS Student Organizing Program works with students on campuses in New York State to develop student-run chapters of Peace Action that engage the campus community on issues of foreign policy and social justice and how these issues intersect. Starting with just one campus in 2011, the program currently involves 15+ campuses across New York State.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Program:
- Outreach, and recruitment of potential new student organizers
- Collect hiring paperwork for hired student organizers
- Schedule and hold bi-weekly (every 2 weeks) check-in calls with student organizers
- Help schedule and co-convene monthly student-network wide conference calls with the Director of Policy & Outreach
- Provide support to student chapters with resources, knowledge, and guidance as needed
- Summarize student activities and report back to Director of Policy and Outreach
- Responsible for arranging travel and logistics, as needed, for students to attend statewide network events
- Responsible for creation and distribution of all materials relating to the PAFNYS student conference, and other tasks related to this project, as assigned by the Director of Policy & Outreach
External Communications
- Support the distribution of media/social media materials as needed
- Help create content for social media channels
- Occasionally draft email blasts and other correspondence in coordination with the Director of Policy & Outreach and Director of Operations & Communications
Staff/Office Responsibilities
- Regularly update the staff calendar with weekly schedule and work-flow responsibilities
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and staff check-ins
- Otherwise provide administrative support for the organization's campaigns, as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- An understanding of and passion for Peace Action Fund of New York State’s mission and values
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Experience and/or familiarity with on-campus activism
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Flexibility to work occasionally on evenings and weekends
- Experience in advocacy or grassroots organizing work is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in international relations, peace studies, or related fields is a plus
This position will be remote, with strong preference for someone based in or near New York City. Occasional travel will be required to New York City and to campuses statewide.
Salary & Benefits: The position has a starting annualized salary of $45,000 and includes 10 paid vacation days and a minimum of 10 paid holidays. PAFNYS offers employees the opportunity to participate in a SIMPLE IRA plan with a 3% company match. PAFNYS also offers full-time employees the opportunity to participate in an Individual Coverage HRA (ICHRA) plan.
Who We Are: Peace Action Fund of New York State is a sibling organization of Peace Action New York State, the state affiliate of national Peace Action. We are committed to promoting the non-violent resolution of conflict, the abolition of nuclear weapons, halting the global spread of conventional arms, and supporting human needs instead of militarism. We pursue these goals through the production and dissemination of educational materials for the public, activists and policy makers, as well as through community organizing initiatives and public outreach. Since 2011, Peace Action Fund of New York State’s Campus Organizing Program has supported a statewide network of young peacemakers who are youth leaders in shaping public response to U.S. foreign policy, and has been a presence on at least 60 campuses across New York State.
