    Organization Profile

    For more than two decades, Comprehensive Youth Development has helped to transform the lives of New York City’s young people by empowering them to create rewarding futures for themselves and their families. CYD is a nonprofit that provides a range of services to youth ages 14-24 to help them complete high school and succeed in college, advanced training, and the workplace. CYD staff operates at three public high schools: Manhattan Comprehensive Night & Day High School, City-As-School, and The High School for Health Professions and Human Services, as well as at the CYD Career Academy, a post-secondary healthcare training program in partnership with Borough of Manhattan Community College. Last year, we served approximately 2,500 young people.

    Job Summary

    The Development Associate reports to the Director of Development and is a key member of a collaborative full-time team of three. The Development Associate also works closely with the Executive Director and serves as a liaison to the Board of Directors. The Development Associate is involved in the full range of department activities and is responsible for CRM database management, individual giving mailings and acknowledgments, corporate and other external partnerships, organizing events and meetings, and a range of other functions. We are looking for a candidate who is eager to build and strengthen their skills in all aspects of nonprofit development and who is motivated by being part of an organization serving the next generation of New Yorkers. The successful candidate will be creative, detail-oriented, and tech-savvy, with excellent organization, writing and administrative skills and a genuine interest in CYD’s mission.

    Responsibilities

    Individual Giving

    • Coordinate and help oversee donor communications, including appeals, acknowledgments, relationship tracking;
    • Manage CYD’s CRM (currently DonorPerfect) to ensure accurate donor records, reporting, moves management activities, and gift reconciliation with the finance department;
    • Assist with the production of periodic media pieces (video, digital, etc.);
    • Assist with donor portfolio development, prospect research, and cultivation planning;

    Corporate Giving and Partnership Development

    • Contribute to the cultivation and stewardship of corporate sponsors and community partners;
    • With support of the Development Director, act as primary liaison with the CYD NextGen Leaders, an affinity group of young professionals, to support their annual goals, events, and initiatives;
    • Work with the Director of Workforce to design and host corporate and individual volunteer and employee engagement opportunities;
    • Represent CYD professionally in meetings, network events, and community engagement opportunities.

    Communications

    • Support CYD’s communications strategy, including attending and documenting key organizational events.
    • Act as manager of CYD’s social media platforms and assist with website updates;
    • Design and draft institutional collateral including flyers, PowerPoint decks, impact reports and other materials;
    • Monitor communications performance and engagement.

    Events

    • Support fundraising events including logistics, sponsor communications, and volunteer and vendor management;
    • Support internal and program events.

    Executive Director and Board Support

    • Assist the Executive Director in a range of organizational functions;
    • Serve as a liaison for quarterly Board of Directors’ and Committee meetings and activities, including attendance at meetings, preparing the meeting materials and agenda, and drafting minutes in coordination with Executive Director;

    Team Support and Office Administration

    • Support internal systems, processes, and workflows for the Executive Team including cross-function coordination;
    • Manage the organization’s Amazon account, order office supplies and liaise with building management;
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in fundraising, nonprofit-management, relationship management, sales, or a related field and/or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
    • 1-3 years prior fundraising, sales, communications, and/or other relevant experience;
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines;
    • Written and verbal communication skills;
    • Professionalism and strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to build authentic relationships with a variety of stakeholders including staff, donors, board members, vendors, volunteers, and students;
    • Command of the required technical skills relevant to fundraising/donor management, including demonstrated proficiency of MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) required. Prior experience with a fundraising database, such as DonorPerfect is a plus, but not required.
    • Ability to work occasional evenings for events and quarterly board meetings
