About ECAN
The Esophageal Cancer Action Network (ECAN) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives by increasing awareness about the link between reflux disease and cancer, promoting early detection, supporting research, and providing patients and families with reliable information and compassionate support.
ECAN is seeking a creative, organized, and mission-driven Development and Communications Manager to support fundraising, donor engagement, and organizational communications. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager will help execute ECAN's development and communications activities, including donor outreach, fundraising campaigns, corporate and foundation support, email marketing, social media, website content, and organizational storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
Development
- Support implementation of ECAN's annual fundraising plan and campaigns.
- Coordinate individual giving, donor stewardship, direct mail, email, and digital fundraising activities.
- Research prospective individual, corporate, and foundation supporters.
- Assist with donor cultivation and stewardship.
- Draft proposals, sponsorship requests, grant applications, and funder reports.
- Maintain donor and prospect information and track fundraising activities and results.
- Support corporate partnerships, planned giving, and other development initiatives.
- Coordinate donor acknowledgments and recognition.
Communications
- Create engaging content for ECAN's website, email, social media, print materials, and fundraising campaigns.
- Manage ECAN's social media and email communications calendar.
- Maintain and update website content.
- Develop stories highlighting ECAN's patients, caregivers, advocates, programs, research, and impact.
- Support communications for awareness, advocacy, education, and patient-support initiatives.
- Maintain consistency with ECAN's brand, voice, and messaging.
- Track communications performance and identify opportunities to improve engagement.
Collaboration & Administration
- Coordinate development and communications projects, calendars, deadlines, and vendors.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director, staff, Board members, volunteers, and external partners.
- Assist with reporting on fundraising and communications activities and results.
- Perform other related duties supporting ECAN's mission and organizational priorities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- Three or more years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, communications, marketing, or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Experience with donor communications, digital marketing, social media, email marketing, or fundraising campaigns.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently in a small, remote organization.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Experience with nonprofit CRM/database systems and digital communications platforms preferred.
- Experience in health, cancer, patient advocacy, or a related nonprofit field is a plus.
Compensation
- $35–$40 per hour, commensurate with experience, for approximately 25–35 hours per week
- Retirement plan eligibility after six months
