Title: General Educational Development (GED) Instructor
Position Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Education and Employment Program Manager
Hiring Range: $49,783 to $75,705 per year

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The GED Instructor provides individual and group instruction to adult learners working toward obtaining their General Educational Development (GED). This role supports participants with a wide range of educational experiences, skill levels, and learning needs, including individuals who have been out of the classroom for many years, recently returned to education, or who may benefit from individualized instructional support.
CWEE is seeking an individual with strong content knowledge in adult education who can assess the educational needs of participants pursuing education as part of their career advancement goals, develop and implement responsive curriculum, and deliver instruction in both online and in-person formats. This role requires flexibility, cultural responsiveness, and the ability to create an accessible, trauma-informed, and supportive learning environment where participants can build both academic skills and confidence.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction and Coaching
- Provide direct group instruction and 1:1 individualized tutoring to participants preparing for GED exams, and pre-GED skill building.
- Assess participant skill level and educational history and collaborate with Program staff to create individualized education plans that meet learning needs and align with career goals
- Engage participants across a broad range of skill levels using a variety of proven teaching skills and motivational strategies while meeting the needs of individual learning styles
- Create a positive, healthy, and trauma-informed learning environment for all learners by using effective classroom management (both in-person and online) based on respect, safety, and appropriate boundaries
Curriculum and Administration
- Maintain awareness of best practices in adult education and adult learning theory
- Keep detailed records and regularly input data on participant progress and course completion into CWEE’s client management information system (CiviCore)
- Build on and implement curriculum aligned with GED exam content for delivery in virtual and onsite classroom instruction models
- Manage online learning platform used by CWEE, Essential Education.
- Ensure access to resources, tools and supports, including vouchers and technology account user licenses
Communication
- Maintain ongoing communication with participants and their assigned Program staff in an effort to build relationships and create structure in a self-directed learning environment
- Participate in regularly scheduled meetings across teams to discuss participant progress; responsible for participant progress in the GED/Education pathway
- Provide consultation, training and expertise across the organization regarding best practices in adult education, including resources for external assessments and referrals to other community training programs, as needed
- Motivate participants and effectively translate the skills being built into the context of employment
- Use effective and timely communication strategies and methods to communicate with various stakeholders
Professional Growth and Wellness
- Reflect on progress toward professional goals, both individually and with supervisor, and follow through on identified learning opportunities
- Participate in supervision, team practices, and wellness strategies that support sustainable, trauma-informed work
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners with diverse needs, including learners impacted by economic barriers and historically underserved communities
- Knowledge of General Educational Development (GED) exams in Colorado; and/or teaching license preferred
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and its application in instructional design and delivery
- Ability to read, write and speak fluently in English and Spanish is preferred
- Experience teaching adults in Spanish and using GED preparation or digital learning platforms preferred
- Experience with educational assessment tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn learning management systems
- Ability to think critically and proactively adapt instruction to meet student needs, learning goals, and classroom challenges
- Ability to incorporate varied teaching styles and relevant learning tools, including digital and multimedia resources, to make GED content accessible and engaging for adult learners
- Understanding and application of group instruction principles and classroom management
- Skilled in supporting instruction across multiple modalities, including phone-based support, video conferencing, and online learning platforms
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants and staff
- Ability to apply a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach
- Experience with daily, detailed data entry and participant outreach
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize participant data, assessment results, and instructional resources to inform instruction and reporting
- Ability to model professional workplace conduct, communication, and boundaries
- Deadline-oriented with the ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- CWEE operates in a hybrid workplace model that balances the responsibilities of being a direct service organization with the benefits of a flexible work environment; the functions of this role require onsite presence at CWEE’s offices located in Denver, Colorado
