    About the Organization:

UJA-Federation of New York is the largest local philanthropy in the world. For more than 100 years, we’ve brought New Yorkers together to solve some of the most pressing problems facing our community. Thanks to our network of hundreds of non-profits, we can leverage our expertise across any number of areas — including health and human services, arts and culture, and education — to care for Jews everywhere and New Yorkers of all backgrounds, respond to crises close to home and far away, and shape our Jewish future. Our reach extends from New York to Israel to nearly 70 other countries around the world, touching 4.5 million people each year.

    Position Summary:

The Community Mobilizer, Brooklyn, is an opportunity for a creative, entrepreneurial, nimble professional who is energized by identifying emerging community needs and translating them into actionable strategies, initiatives, and partnerships that strengthen Jewish life in Brooklyn. As part of a high-impact, rapid-response team, you will work closely with community members and organizational leaders to address critical needs, inspire and uplift grassroots involvement, and cultivate community-driven solutions. Your work will have both local and regional impact, strengthening connections and fostering collaboration within and beyond the Jewish community in Brooklyn.

The Community Mobilizer will primarily focus on working with Jewish organizations and community members in Brooklyn to identify, address, and leverage opportunities that enrich the local Jewish community. This includes developing programs, grants, and convenings that align with community priorities, utilizing UJA resources, and designing initiatives that are both timely and place-based. This role also emphasizes intra-Jewish, interfaith and cross-cultural relationship-building and collaboration, as well as cultivating civic engagement.

This work covers all of Brooklyn but has a focus on Central/Northern Brooklyn neighborhoods where there have been rapid shifts in the Jewish community in the last decade+. (ex: Ditmas, Cobble Hill, Park Slope, Crown Heights, Fort Greene, Bushwick, Williamsburg). Additionally, you will contribute to broader community mobilization initiatives across UJA’s areas in NYC, Westchester, and Long Island.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Build and Strengthen Relationships: Establish connections with local stakeholders, including synagogues, schools, JCCs, agencies, grassroots initiatives, and community members. This also includes proactive outreach to underserved or underrepresented Jewish communities.
    • Convene Community Stakeholders: Organize roundtables with key community sectors to foster ongoing partnerships and implement impactful solutions.
    • Develop Community-Driven Programs: Design and implement programmatic and grant-funded initiatives tailored to local needs.
    • Serve as UJA's Representative: Act as an external representative for UJA in Brooklyn, attending community events and connecting with leaders across Jewish organizations.
    • Cultivate Intergroup Relationships in Brooklyn: Build and strengthen partnerships with other faith and ethnic communities in Brooklyn, facilitating collaboration and mutual support across diverse groups.
    • Lead Advisory Council: Manage the Brooklyn Advisory Council, engaging volunteer members to shape community efforts.
    • Project Manage Community Initiatives: Oversee the implementation of community-wide projects and initiatives as required. Ensure initiatives are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with measurable community impact.
    • Internal Collaboration: With a strong ethos of teamwork and collaboration, effectively advocate for hyperlocal community needs within the larger organization, and work collaboratively with other planning departments on shared projects and priorities.

    Qualifications and Competencies:

    • Experience: 5–10 years of relevant professional experience in community organizing, program management or related fields.
    • Local Knowledge: Familiarity with the New York Jewish community (especially Brooklyn), with a strong preference for candidates residing in Brooklyn.
    • Cultural Sensitivity: Skilled in communicating with diverse stakeholders, including colleagues, clergy, educators, and individuals across varied Jewish, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
    • Self-Starter: Able to identify and develop opportunities independently and navigate ambiguity, working in both a start-up and legacy organizational context.
    • Strong Communication and Relationship Building: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a commitment to building meaningful relationships across diverse communities and organizations. Skilled at navigating diverse stakeholders with differing priorities and facilitating alignment toward shared goals.
    • Project Management: Demonstrated experience managing multi-stakeholder initiatives from ideation through execution, including planning, budgeting, and follow-through.

    Salary Information:

The salary range for this role is $85,000-90,000, based on experience and qualifications.
