ABOUT NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR

Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) is a faith-based community organization in Raleigh, NC working with teens and young adults in Southeast Raleigh for 30 years. We believe that proximity matters — that real change happens when people are genuinely present with and invested in their neighbors, not just serving from a distance.

We run after-school programming, mentorship, and workforce development for youth who are already showing up, already motivated, and just need the right environment to grow. We put that conviction into practice through two social enterprises: Neighbor Lawn Care & Neighbor Cleaning. Both exist to create economic mobility for the people we serve.

ABOUT NEIGHBOR LAWN CARE

Neighbor Lawn Care is a legit lawn care business with paying residential clients, crews, and equipment. Its purpose goes beyond cutting grass: it exists to create workforce experience and economic opportunity for the teens and young adults in our community.

We're building toward a teen after-school employment model, sending crews of high schoolers out in the afternoons during the school year. They earn real wages, build real skills, and develop the work habits that set them up for life beyond N2N. This position is the spine of that model. You'd be the one making it work day to day.

THE POSITION

This is a hands-on, high-autonomy position. You are the operational leader of Neighbor Lawn Care, responsible for the quality of the work, the development of the youth doing it, and the growth of the client base that sustains it. You will work alongside your crew, not just manage from a distance.

This is not a desk job with occasional site visits. You'll be outside, working with your hands, and leading by example, especially in the early stages. The right person finds that energizing, not burdensome.

At the same time, you're running a business. You'll manage scheduling, equipment, client relationships, and quality control. You'll recruit and onboard teens, help build the summer job placement pipeline with N2N staff, and contribute to growing the client base. You represent everything Neighbor Lawn Care is to the community.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Field and Crew Leadership

• Lead after-school lawn care crews of teens Monday through Thursday, 3:30 to 7pm during the school year, with occasional Saturdays for larger jobs
• Work physically alongside the crew: mowing, edging, cleanup, mulch installs, and seasonal work
• Coach teens in real time on quality, behavior, and attitude, and hold a crew culture that is demanding, dignified, and worth showing up for

Scheduling

• Own the daily and weekly schedule, routing crews efficiently across the client base
• Maintain all equipment and manage supply needs within budget
• Communicate proactively with N2N leadership on jobs, issues, and progress

Client Relationships and Growth

• Serve as the face of Neighbor Lawn Care to residential clients, building relationships that drive retention and referrals
• Support outreach efforts to grow the recurring client base and represent the mission clearly when clients ask who we are and what we do

Youth Development

• Recruit teens into the program in partnership with N2N staff and set clear expectations around attendance, performance, and attitude
• Participate in connecting teens to summer job opportunities
• Be someone teens can trust and genuinely learn from, not just a supervisor they report to

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You must have:

• Real, hands-on landscaping, lawn care, or outdoor trades experience. Not just personal yard work. You know how to run a mower, use a trimmer, read a route, and manage equipment.
• Physical stamina and a genuine enjoyment of working with your hands outdoors
• Experience leading or supervising others in a field setting
• Strong organizational skills: you can manage a schedule, juggle competing priorities, and stay on top of logistics
• A demonstrated passion for working with teens or young adults, and a belief that real work is one of the best things you can give a young person
• Alignment with N2N's values including a commitment to proximity and genuine presence in the communities we serve
• Valid driver's license and ability to tow a trailer

You'll stand out if you have experience in youth development or nonprofit work, a background in customer-facing roles or sales, familiarity with lawn care business operations, or experience alongside faith-based or community organizations. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Honestly, this job is not for you if you want to manage from the truck, if you're not comfortable with the natural unpredictability of teens, if you need a lot of direction from above, or if the mission feels like fine print. The youth development piece is not a side note. It's half the job.
