School the World is committed to solving extreme poverty through the power of education. Using a grassroots model, we unite community leaders, parents and teachers to combat failing school systems, improve learning outcomes, and disrupt generational poverty.

School the World (“STW”) operates in Guatemala, Honduras and Panama. Our holistic educational programming begins with early childhood, making sure children start school ready to learn, continues on to primary school with an emphasis on literacy and social-emotional learning and extends through lower secondary school, ensuring that young people gain the digital and life skills needed to chart a path out of poverty. We commit to work with our communities for a minimum of five years and monitor thereafter.

School the World is currently searching for a Manager, Service Learning & Global Citizenship to be based at our headquarters in Boston.

Summary/Objective: This position will spearhead all efforts related to our student and corporate service programs, from recruitment and execution through sustained engagement. In conjunction with service learning, this role is responsible for continuing the launch of an in-school Global Citizenship Program. Reporting to both School the World’s Founder & CEO and Chief Operating Officer, his/her responsibilities will include, but not limited to;

Responsibilities:

• Maintain deep knowledge of School the World’s mission, history, and programs;
• Grow STW’s Service Learning and Travel program through a dedicated recruitment plan that incorporates the development of a rebranding and marketing strategy in conjunction with our Director of Communications;
• Manage all associated logistics and operations for all service trips to Central America, working alongside our Regional Director of Service and Chief Operating Officer and other supporting staff (including engineers and field staff);
• Organize and lead all pre-travel presentations, meetings and communications with students, families and corporate participants;
• Develop a strategic plan for STW’s Global Citizenship Program focused on recruiting new families/teachers, classrooms and schools, including monetizing partnerships;
• Expand current educator database, cultivate our network and tap into new geographies through creative outreach tactics;
• Lead all student and corporate service trips to Guatemala, Honduras or Panama, delivering a top tier and holistic service experience;
• Support Communications Director in developing marketing content for trip promotion (e.g. student newspaper articles, service trip blog posts, testimonials, etc.);
• Cultivate past participants to become sustained members of the School the World community as ambassadors, advisers or annual donors.

Requirements:

• A passion for improving the lives of the most disadvantaged children and a commitment to education as the most effective vehicle for social mobility;
• Minimum three to five years of similar work experience, preferably in travel operations, sales, business development or fundraising;
• Strong organization and operational skills are a must;
• Ability to engage with various age groups (high school and professionals), outgoing and energetic personality;
• Proven results orientation with exceptional communication and networking skills;
• High energy, entrepreneurial spirit with a track record of deepening existing relationships and forging new ones;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively toward goals;
• Ability to travel to (1) internalize School the World’s mission, values, theory of change and program strategy and (2) lead all service programs throughout the year (minimum of 6 weeks);
• Ability to host informational sessions which require local Boston and broader U.S. based travel as well as some evenings.
• Flexibility to adjust hours as needed to meet deadlines and needs of the organization, including evenings and weekends for informational sessions and student meetings;
• Spanish language skills are preferred.
