    Director of Finance and Human Resources

    About CLEE: The mission of the Center for Leadership and Educational Equity (CLEE) is to provide leaders with professional learning and support to create equitable outcomes for students in our schools.     Position Summary: The Director of Finance and Human Resources is responsible for overseeing financial, human resource, and key organizational operations. This role supports CLEE’s growth by strengthening systems, leveraging technology, and implementing efficient outsourced solutions. The position is multifaceted with opportunities for growth alongside CLEE’s organizational scaling. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, system-minded, and committed to educational equity.

    • Financial Management & Systems
      • Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, compliance (including 501c3 federal and state tax exemption and other required state and federal nonprofit reports), and internal controls.
      • Manage revenue streams including contracts, program fees, donations, and grants.
      • Coordinate annual financial Single Audit and IRS Form 990 with external auditors.
      • Monitor and update organizational liability, workers compensation and directors and officers insurance policies
      • Support financial planning and organizational decision-making.
    • Bookkeeping & Financial Operations
      • Oversee full-charge bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping, including monthly reconciliation, grant tracking, and general journal entries.
      • Improve systems through technology and outsourcing where appropriate/approved.
    • Human Resources Operations
      • Oversee payroll (includes monitoring/updating grant job costing), onboarding, and HR compliance (Paychex platform).
      • Monitor and update personnel benefits for health/dental, life, long term disability insurance.
      • Maintain HR policies and procedures and support effective personnel practices and compliance with state and federal employment regulations and laws.
    • Operations & Supervision
      • Supervise staff responsible for facilities, materials, and internal operational systems.
    • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
      • Leverage organizational systems of support to continuously improve own practices by applying CLEE’s evidence-based Core Leadership Practices.
      • Build staff capacity with financial and HR systems.
      • Collaborate across teams to improve organizational effectiveness.

    Required Qualifications:

    • 5+ years in finance, business operations, or similar leadership roles including human resources and compliance.
    • Experience improving systems and processes for organizational growth.
    • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
    • Proficiency with cloud based software, including Google Workspace, accounting, payroll, cross-team project management and customer relationship management software.
    • Self-directed, collaborative, and solutions oriented.
    • Use of personal vehicle for occasional business purposes.
    • Commitment to educational equity and CLEE’s mission.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 10+ years in finance, business operations, or similar leadership roles including human resources and compliance.
    • Master’s degree such as MBA or masters in accounting, finance or related field or active CPA license.
    • Financial forecasting and long-term strategy experience.
    • Experience partnering with executive leadership and program teams to align resources with programmatic goals.
    • Proficiency with Quickbooks Online (nonprofit), PayChex Flex, Asana, and Salesforce.

    Position Details:

    • CLEE has a hybrid work model wherein staff meet in Providence, RI one to two times monthly for staff meetings at CLEE’s headquarters. Financial and human resources files and CLEE’s PO Box are also in Providence. It is a preference for candidates to live within drivable distance to CLEE.
    • Typical work hours are 8:30 am - 4:30 pm EST with early and late hours a few times a month if needed.
    • Full time, annual contract with salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Further details:
      • CLEE pays the entire premium for medical, dental, and life insurance. Estimated averages for the contributions/premiums paid by CLEE on candidates behalf include:
        • 8% of gross salary in IRA-SEP retirement account, which is fully vested on day one
        • $17,000 health and dental Insurance (estimated average)
        • $750 life insurance premium (estimated average)
    • CLEE provides 40 days of paid holidays/PTO, as well as flex/comp time which aligns with the K-12 educational calendar.
    • Anticipated start date: Immediate, by March 16, 2026.
