The Organization
Legal Assistance for Seniors (LAS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in its 50th year serving Alameda County residents who are 60 years of age and older. LAS has held the Alameda County HICAP contract for 37 years. LAS provides individual counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and community education in the areas of Medicare, supplemental coverage including Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plans, low-income assistance programs, and long-term care insurance. Through its Legal Services Program, LAS provides legal advice and information, representation in court and administrative hearings, referrals to other community resources, and free education to older adults on various topics, including prevention of elder abuse, consumer law, public benefits, housing, guardianships, naturalization, and health law.
The Role
Reporting to the HICAP Manager, the HICAP Program Assistant will support the HICAP team by performing a wide range of administrative, client-facing, and case-related tasks. This position plays an integral role in ensuring the smooth operation of the HICAP department, assisting with the initial phone intakes from potential clients, scheduling client appointments, and overseeing calendars. This position will also assist with fact sheet and publication inventory and provide other administrative support. The HICAP Program Assistant will help create a welcoming office space for both HICAP Counselors and clients.
