Grants and Development Manager

The Grants and Development Manager plays a central role in advancing FICPFM’s fundraising and organizational sustainability goals. This position will lead grant writing and reporting efforts, manage the organization’s donor and grants database (CRM), and proactively identify and pursue new funding opportunities aligned with FICPFM’s mission and strategic priorities.

Working closely with organizational leadership, the Grants and Development Manager will help strengthen and expand philanthropic partnerships that support FICPFM’s work to end mass incarceration, dismantle racial and economic inequities within the criminal legal system, and restore rights and dignity to directly impacted people and their families.

The ideal candidate is both highly organized and entrepreneurial, someone who can manage details and systems while also actively “hunting” for new opportunities, cultivating funder relationships, and helping grow the organization’s revenue base.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing & Reporting

• Lead the preparation, writing, and submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding applications.
• Coordinate and complete grant reports and other funder deliverables in collaboration with program and leadership staff.
• Maintain grant calendars, submission timelines, reporting deadlines, and funding records.
• Translate FICPFM’s mission, programs, and impact into compelling narratives tailored to institutional funders.

Funding Research & Prospect Development

• Identify and research new grants and funding opportunities aligned with FICPFM’s mission and strategic priorities.
• Monitor foundation trends, funding announcements, and philanthropic opportunities within criminal legal reform, racial justice, civic engagement, and movement-building spaces.
• Develop prospect lists and briefing materials for leadership and fundraising outreach.
• Support relationship-building efforts with foundations and institutional funders.

CRM & Development Operations

• Serve as the primary owner and manager of the organization’s CRM/database system.
• Ensure accurate tracking of donor, grant, and funder information, including deadlines, communications, gifts, and reporting requirements.
• Generate fundraising and development reports as needed for leadership and Board use.
• Support donor stewardship and development communications processes.

Development Team Support

• Collaborate with leadership on development strategy and fundraising planning.
• Support broader fundraising campaigns and organizational development initiatives as needed.
• Help strengthen internal development systems and processes that support long-term sustainability and growth.
• Contribute to building a development culture that reflects FICPFM’s values of justice, inclusion, and centering directly impacted voices.

Qualifications

FICPFM is committed to hiring individuals who have been most deeply impacted by the carceral system. While all qualified candidates will be considered, priority will be given to candidates who have experienced incarceration/ conviction and/or have close relationships with currently or formerly incarcerated people.

• 4–6 years of nonprofit fundraising and grants management experience.
• Demonstrated success writing and managing grant proposals and reports.
• Experience researching and securing institutional funding opportunities.
• Strong CRM/database management experience (Bloomerang or similar systems preferred).
• Excellent writing, organizational, and project management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced, movement-centered environment.
• Self-directed, resourceful, and proactive approach to identifying opportunities and solving problems.
• Commitment to FICPFM’s mission and values, including abolitionist principles and movement-building led by directly impacted people.
