    Overview

    Liberty's Promise (www.libertyspromise.org) is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting low-income, immigrant youth, ages 11-21, through our after-school civic engagement programs and professional internship programs. Civics and Citizenship is a program for immigrant youth of all backgrounds focusing on civic education, college access, and career readiness. Civics and Citizenship Junior focuses on personal growth and development of life skills to prepare youth for the obstacles they will face and decisions they will make before high school. Liberty’s Promise has served more than 8,700 youth, reaching approximately 800 student participants/year representing 124 different countries. 90% of participants feel more connected to their community, 85% are better prepared for the U.S workplace, and 88% are better prepared for higher education as a result of the program.

    Position Summary

    We are currently seeking one or more energetic and dedicated full-time Program Officers to engage middle and high-school age youth and lead after-school programming in civic engagement - one at Holabird and Lansdown Middle Schools (Baltimore County) and the other at Benjamin Franklin and Patterson High Schools (Baltimore City). The successful candidate(s) will be part of a dynamic team and will work at our office location in Baltimore, MD in the mornings, and in the afternoons will be onsite (twice weekly, 20 weeks annually) at the respective schools in either Baltimore City or Baltimore County, MD. The position requires frequent travel between schools, office, and offsite field trips, and Program Officers must be able to provide for their own transportation.

    The Program Officer positions are contingent on funding, with an anticipated start date of ~ August 18, 2025.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    Program Planning and Execution (40% of time)

    • Develop curriculum and lead after-school programs focused on civic engagement for low-income, immigrant youth at either Benjamin Franklin and Patterson High Schools OR at Holabird and Lansdowne Middle Schools
    • Coordinate and manage year-round professional internship program for youth (high school programs only)
    • Organize and schedule guest speakers, who will visit the program to spread awareness of community resources that may benefit our youth, as well as model their respective career fields
    • Organize and schedule at least two field trips per session, per school
    • Coordinate and manage year-round professional internship program for youth
    • Assist youth individually as needed, acting as a trusted mentor who can connect youth and their families to the services or additional support that they need

    Data collection, reporting, and knowledge management (10% of time)

    • Collect and organize youth registration forms, and upload that information in Box and Salesforce
    • Track and update program outcomes and statistics using Salesforce
    • Ensure that data for each program is up-to-date and available for grant submissions

    Administration (30% of time)

    • Write and edit grant proposals for Liberty’s Promise
    • Complete all monthly reporting necessary for grants
    • Draft reports and case studies for marketing material
    • Organize all program related material (photos, receipts, handouts, etc.)

    External Relations (15% of time)

    • Build and maintain active relationships with public schools, local organizations, and/or government agencies
    • Maintain an active knowledge base of nonprofits and programs related to Liberty’s Promise mission, and serve as a liaison, anticipating the needs of our youth to connect them with the local community resources that are available
    • Develop relationships with local businesses, organizations, and government agencies
    • Occasionally attend weekend or evening meetings on behalf of Liberty’s Promise

    Additional duties as assigned (5% of time)

    Position Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • Spanish and English fluency required (written and spoken)
    • At least one year of experience working on youth-focused programs
    • Ability to work in a small office environment, contributing to initiatives and programs outside the position’s scope, as needed
    • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and communication styles
    • Must exhibit flexibility, reliability, exceptional professionalism, and a strong work ethic
    • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to think on your feet and find solutions to unanticipated problems
    • Ability to function independently and as a member of a team
    • Deep belief in Liberty’s Promise mission, vision, and values
    • Dedication to working with immigrant youth and expanding the opportunities for Liberty’s Promise to grow and impact the community
