    About PSIA-AASI and the Education Foundation

    The Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI) is a nonprofit education association dedicated to promoting snowsports through exceptional instruction. With over 35,000 members in eight regions, PSIA-AASI sets industry certification standards, produces leading educational materials, and raises $350K annually in member support.

    The PSIA-AASI Education Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to advance snowsports education through transformational initiatives and scholarships. The Foundation will work in close partnership with PSIA-AASI to support instructors’ personal and professional growth, while operating under its own board of directors with independent governance.

    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of PSIA-AASI and working in close partnership with the Foundation Board of Directors (being established with six identified candidates), the Director will build, lead, and manage the Foundation’s fundraising and philanthropic functions from the ground up, elevating the initial work that has been done by consultants and volunteers. As the inaugural in-house development leader, the Director will design and execute fundraising initiatives and programs, engage with the PSIA membership and other prospects to engage our membership and audience as donors to PSIA initiatives.

    This full-time, remote position requires experience building foundation operations from startup through sustainable growth. The Director will transition operations from current consulting arrangements and establish foundational systems within the first three months and then establish a cadence of advancement activities in consultation with the association’s leadership. Occasional travel required for donor meetings, regional events, and industry conferences.

    Key Responsibilities

    Foundation Startup & Operational Leadership

    • Lead the establishment of Foundation operations including governance policies, compliance procedures, and operational frameworks within first three months
    • Transition seamlessly from current consulting arrangements, assuming responsibility for CRM systems, donor relationships, and policy development
    • Work collaboratively with inaugural Foundation Board to establish governance structure, strategic priorities, and operational oversight
    • Develop and implement comprehensive foundation policies and procedures for donor management, grant making, risk management and operational compliance

    Strategic Fundraising & Development Planning

    • Develop and maintain revenue roadmap with clear lead generation and conversion strategies for sustainable growth
    • Build and manage a robust prospect pipeline through systematic identification and qualification of potential donors (members and non-members) nationwide
    • Develop and implement annual and multi-year fundraising plans aligned with regional needs and Foundation priorities, including the national scholarship program, digital education, adaptive instruction, and diversity initiatives
    • Set and achieve ambitious fundraising targets that demonstrate ROI and support Foundation growth
    • Identify and cultivate funding opportunities from major donors, industry stakeholders, and individual supporters
    • Work with the Foundation Board to develop long-term strategic goals and ensure alignment with current and new fundraising priorities

    Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

    • Maintain continuous stewardship of supporters through relationship management and meaningful engagement
    • Lead key conversations and stewardship processes to cultivate gifts, ensuring every donor interaction moves toward deeper commitment
    • Build and sustain relationships with new and existing donors, including major gifts ($10,000+)
    • Develop and implement an annual giving program to create a sustained base of donors
    • Create donor recognition and stewardship programs that acknowledge contributions and demonstrate impact
    • Manage a portfolio of 75-125 donor relationships with systematic cultivation and solicitation strategies
    • Grow annual donor revenue from $200,000+ to over $600,000 in the first year with a larger goal for the Foundation to within the next five years be generating $1 million+ from donor sources.

    National Scholarship Program Management

    • Oversee and expand the National Scholarship Program including application processes, selection criteria, and award distribution
    • Collaborate with PSIA-AASI regions to align scholarship opportunities with local and national priorities
    • Develop scholarship marketing and outreach strategies to increase participation and impact
    • Ensure scholarship program compliance and reporting requirements are met

    Foundation Operations & Systems

    • Optimize and manage donor database and CRM systems transitioned from consulting arrangements
    • Ensure accurate gift processing, acknowledgment, and reporting procedures
    • Provide training and supervision to staff/volunteers supporting database and administrative functions
    • Establish and maintain fundraising policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks

    Community & Partnership Engagement

    • Partner with PSIA-AASI regional offices to align fundraising efforts with regional initiatives
    • Represent the Foundation at regional events, conferences, and industry gatherings
    • Build relationships with ski industry partners, suppliers, and resort leadership
    • Support integration with Interski 2027 preparations and related fundraising opportunities
    • Enhance the Foundation’s public profile and brand in collaboration with the Board

    Event Oversight & Management

    • Plan and manage fundraising events including donor receptions, gatherings, and special campaigns
    • Coordinate Foundation presence at PSIA-AASI events such as annual National Academy
    • Develop event strategies that build community while advancing fundraising objectives

    Performance Measurement & Reporting

    • Track fundraising outcomes and provide regular reports to CEO and Foundation Board
    • Analyze donor trends and recommend strategies for continuous improvement
    • Collaborate with CEO and board to set fundraising targets and strategic priorities
    • Maintain accurate records for annual reporting and tax compliance

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
    • Minimum five years of proven success in nonprofit development, including experience with:
    • Foundation startup and operations development
    • Major gifts cultivation and solicitation
    • Foundation and corporate fundraising
    • Annual giving programs
    • Grant writing and proposal management
    • Experience with CRM systems and donor database management
    • Proven experience building development programs from ground up
    • Strong organizational, strategic planning, and communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment with board oversight
    • Experience developing policies and procedures for nonprofit organizations
    • Passion for education, outdoor recreation, and alignment with PSIA-AASI’s mission

    Preferred

    • Deep experience with organizations of our nature and structure and the complexities it involves specifically working with federated organizations that have shared governance and ownership for advancement aims
    • Preference for deep experience with PSIA-AASI
    • Experience in snowsports, outdoor recreation, or related sectors
    • Knowledge of membership associations and professional development organizations
    • Previous experience with 501(c)(3) startup operations and governance
    • Familiarity with PSIA-AASI regions and snowsports industry
    • Experience managing consultant transitions and operational handovers
    • Professional development certification (CFRE preferred)

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Salary Range: $100,000 – 120,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
