    Descrição

Compass Overview: Compass Pro Bono forges lasting ties between local nonprofits and local business professionals to empower thriving, equitable, resilient communities. Compass Pro Bono believes that thriving, equitable, resilient communities are ones in which the local business and local nonprofit sectors are deeply interconnected. We believe that local nonprofits play a critical role in community well-being, and that local business professionals can play a critical role in local nonprofits’ success. We envision a world in which nonprofits consistently have access within their own communities to the business strategy resources they need to thrive, and in which business professionals are empowered to seamlessly leverage their business acumen to sustain the nonprofits serving their communities.

Position Overview: Do you enjoy making sense of lots of details, updates, and ideas and turning them into clear communications that help donors, funders, and partners understand their impact? Do you enjoy digging into research, spotting useful details, and helping your team identify promising opportunities? Would you thrive being a key part of the behind-the-scenes engine for a mission-driven organization’s fundraising and development? Are you a people person with a can-do, customer-service attitude? Do you have a growth mindset and a hunger to apply what you’re learning in real time? Do you want to learn from the inside out how a high-performing nonprofit builds the relationships and resources that sustain its work? Do you enjoy juggling a variety of challenges in any given workweek? Do you want to work with a fantastic team? If you’re shouting “YES!”, then this is the position for you!

Your mission: Be the research and writing engine that helps Compass Pro Bono identify and qualify donor prospects, build trust with funders, and generate the fundraising results that power our work with nonprofits across our cities.

This role is part impact storyteller, part researcher, part campaign whisperer, part grant writer, and part data manager.

To be successful in this role, you will be eager to learn how fundraising communications, donor stewardship, and careful prospect research builds trust with donors, funders, and partners; be comfortable juggling multiple projects, audiences, deadlines, and internal requests without dropping any balls; enjoy turning lots of moving information into accurate, thoughtful, audience-ready communications and materials; and be at ease in a fast-paced, business tech-saturated work environment.

The position may be based in any of the metro regions Compass currently serves: Washington, DC; Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN; Philadelphia, PA, New York, NY, or Chicago, IL; . If in DC, the Development Coordinator will work at least 2-3 days per week in-person from the Compass Pro Bono headquarters in DC, and work remotely the rest of the time. If in one of the other regions, the Development Coordinator will primarily work remotely with occasional in-person meetings with other staff in their city, and will be expected to travel to DC at least twice/year for all-hands retreats. The Development Coordinator is expected to provide evening support for Compass Pro Bono events once or twice a year, with notice. The Development Coordinator will report to Compass Pro Bono’s Director of Development Operations, work with the Development Manager, and support the CEO and all city directors across all Compass Pro Bono cities.

Responsibilities: The Development Coordinator is responsible for supporting high-quality execution of Compass Pro Bono’s development and fundraising activities across all regions. The position is part of the One Compass team, reports to the Director of Development Operations, and currently has six internal “clients”: the Philadelphia and DC Executive Directors, the Chicago, Twin Cities, and New York City Managing Directors, and the CEO. Specific responsibilities include:

    Donor Communications

    • Draft 100+ segmented fundraising campaign emails for key audiences per year (e.g. volunteers, recent donors, and board members)
    • Draft 10+ foundation and corporate updates to keep them informed and connected to Compass Pro Bono’s impact, with guidance from the Director of Development Operations
    • Maintain and/or create custom GPTs or other AI tools for use by city directors (e.g. grant application GPT, corporate proposal GPT, etc.)
    • Draft 10+ grant applications and related materials with guidance from the Director of Development Operations
    • Support the Director of Development Operations in creating and updating fundraising toolkits twice a year for board members and city directors
    • Work closely with the Development Manager to keep two annual fundraising campaigns executed with a high level of quality and on schedule

    Donor Stewardship

    • Create content and draft donor stewardship updates and newsletters quarterly that share program updates, impact stories, and opportunities for continued engagement
    • Collaborate with our Communications department to create compelling 10+ case studies and videos per year showing our impact on individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners
    • Create mail merges and other development materials using Salesforce reporting data (e.g., existing and prospective foundation, corporate, and individual contacts in each Compass city), upon request
    • Review and update donation acknowledgements and automated development messages quarterly to keep them accurate and current

    Donor Prospecting and Data Management

    • Research foundation, corporate, and major donor prospects using foundation databases, company websites, and other reliable sources
    • Pull Salesforce reports of donors, prospects, and other development reports, as needed
    • Provide backup support for donation, donor, and other development records in Salesforce, as needed

    Qualifications

    • Clear and compelling writer, able to connect development strategy to detailed execution when drafting donor updates, campaign emails, newsletters, grant materials, and other communications
    • Organized and reliable, able to balance multiple projects and audiences without micromanagement, successfully juggle multiple time-sensitive fundraising tasks, and maintain accuracy from start to finish
    • Technologically confident, comfortable using, or learning how to use, business tech systems, including AI tools, Salesforce, Google Suite, Slack, and fundraising databases
    • Research-oriented and resourceful, able to find, assess, and synthesize information about foundation, corporate, and individual donor prospects
    • Collaborative and customer-service minded, works well with colleagues across departments and cities, communicates clearly, and brings a can-do attitude to supporting internal clients
    • Adaptable and eager to learn, comfortable shifting between writing, research, and administrative responsibilities in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
    • Mission- and relationship-minded, understands that thoughtful, accurate development work builds trust with supporters and strengthens Compass’s ability to serve nonprofits
