EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM MANAGER @ CASTLEMONT HIGH SCHOOL
Oakland Kids First (OKF) increases youth voice, leadership, and power to create engaging and equitable public schools where all students learn and lead. OKF provides students with youth leadership development opportunities, organizing training and support, and wraparound community school services such as academic support, care management, workforce readiness, career exposure, enrichment, leadership development, and wellness programming.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Extended Day Program Manager oversees OKF staff, community partnerships,and activities that prepare Castlemont High School students for postsecondary college and career pathway opportunities through participation in extended day programs. This role is an essential member of Oakland Kids First’s Castlemont Community School initiative team that offers a range of after school youth leadership, organizing, enrichment, care management, academic support, and college, career and community readiness activities. The manager will develop and facilitate training for staff/partners as well as for youth participants related to positive youth development, workforce readiness skills, social-emotional learning, and financial literacy. This position is a full time, exempt, and salaried in-person role located on the Castlemont High School campus. This position supervises several after school program staff and is supervised by OKF’s Deputy Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Management
- Provide leadership for Oakland Kids First’s Knight Success college, career and community ready programs during the academic year and summer program at Castlemont High School by supporting program staff, agency partners and teachers on extended contract to facilitate programs for 400+ students
- Oversee communication with all community partners and program facilitators about program plans,
- expectations, and required practices to maintain safe and engaging spaces for youth
- Facilitate trainings in positive youth development and curriculum development, and uphold standards for rigorous program quality through observations of programs, constructive feedback and coaching
- Attend organizational and district meetings, and represent Oakland Kids First with stakeholders
- Participate in Castlemont’s Small Learning Community meetings and align with academic pathways
- Foster an environment that promotes teamwork and upholds the principles of Oakland Kids First and Castlemont High School’s Knight Way. Hold an active role on the school’s Culture and Climate team to support campus-wide events, initiatives, and survey distribution and data analysis
- Guide collaborative processes to improve OKF programs at Castlemont by including students, parents/guardians, teachers, and other stakeholders in program design decisions, feedback and surveys
- Develop and maintain positive parent/guardian relations through regular, strategic communication about students’ attendance, participation, and events
- Support the Knight Ambassador after school student leadership program and events throughout the year
- Collaborate with school day and other program staff to design and implement a 2-4 week Summer Bridge
- Program for rising 9th grade students, with youth Knight Ambassadors as co-facilitators
- Brainstorm ideas and develop relationships to establish program connections between Castlemont and nearby feeder Middle and Elementary schools
Workforce Readiness and College/Career Preparation or Community Partnership Coordination
- Develop and execute memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with all community partners and sub-contractors to ensure all partners providing services are operating in accordance with requirements
- Work with Site Coordinator to hold program orientation and on-boarding for new partners
- Manage the on-campus CastleWorks stipended internship programs facilitated by OKF staff, teachers and community partner staff
- Coordinate off-campus paid student internships with Castlemont’s Pathway Coach, Work Based Liaison and community based organizations hosting students
- Identify new agencies and businesses to host additional internships based on youth interest and need
- Track youth stipend payments and documentation
- Help prepare students for internships by developing and executing an on-boarding process for students
- Facilitate workforce readiness training covering resume and cover letter writing, job applications, interview preparation, and professionalism. Develop skill specific training as needed for job placements
- Supervise and support OKF’s Farm and Garden Manager to run a 1-acre active farm, garden, and orchard
- Provide college exposure and access to Castlemont students by hosting tours and presentations
Fiscal Management and Contract Compliance
- Work with OKF’s Deputy Director, Senior Development Manager and Executive Director to organize and prepare for site visits, author grant reports and meet other fund development deadlines
- Support OUSD Expanded Learning Office contract development and compliance paperwork
- Collaborate with OKF’s Deputy Director to track expenditures and manage after-school budgets
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required to have completed at least 48 semester college credits, 72 quarter college credits, or pass Alameda
- County’s Instructional Aide exam
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- At least 4 years of full-time work experience in positive youth development and program management
- Curriculum development, facilitation and/or teaching experience required
- Preference given to candidates with direct experience coordinating and providing capacity-building to an after-school collaborative or school-based committee with community partners
- Ability to collaborate with school administrators, teachers, staff, and community partners is essential
- Experience in program evaluation and grant compliance preferred
- Great communication and writing skills
- Preference given to applicants with prior experience working in high-need, urban education settings
- Passion for mentoring young people
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Position is exempt, full time, and functions on a year-round schedule
- Starting salary range is $82,000-88,000
- Paid time off includes holidays, 3 restoration weeks, professional development, vacation, sick time, 3 personal days as well as family leave and sabbatical time that are dependent on length of employment
- OKF covers 100% of benefits for full time employees including health, vision and dental insurance with an option to add dependents through partial employee cost sharing
- Vanguard 403(b) retirement accounts are available to all employees, and OKF offers an employer match up to 3% of salary each pay period for those 25-40 hour weekly employees voluntarily contributing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Oakland Kids First’s headquarters office is located at 3700 E. 12th St. in the Fruitvale district of Oakland, CA. This position requires in-person work at Castlemont High School at 8601 MacArthur Blvd. Position requires frequent movement across a large high school campus, lifting boxes, transporting program materials, and typing.
