    Descrição

    About MHP

Mengo Hospital Partners (www.mengopartners.org) is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to building a Pediatric Center of Excellence at Mengo Hospital in Kampala, Uganda — East Africa’s oldest hospital and a vital private not-for-profit provider.

We are a small, mission-driven team committed to transforming pediatric care in Uganda through collaboration, compassion, and catalytic philanthropy. The need is great in Kampala and across the country of Uganda where over half the population is under the age of 16 and yet there is no full service pediatric care facility in the region.

    The Opportunity

The Executive Director will serve as MHP’s primary fundraising and operational leader. This role combines day-to-day management with strategic vision, relationship-building, and donor engagement. The ED will work closely with the Board and Ugandan partners to strengthen resources, expand visibility, and drive growth. We seek a persuasive communicator and proven fundraiser — ideally with experience in Africa — who is entrepreneurial, relationship-oriented, and motivated to make lasting impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    Fundraising & Development (Top Priority)

    • Lead donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with Board support.
    • Set and achieve fundraising targets in collaboration with the Board.
    • Grow annual giving campaigns and donor networks.
    • Produce donor communications (proposals, thank-you notes, reports, campaigns).
    • Plan and execute fundraising events, donor briefings, and gatherings.
    • Pursue foundation and institutional grants.
    • Maintain donor databases and giving platforms.
    • Build connections with the Ugandan diaspora and Africa-focused funders.

    Board & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Partner with the Board Chair and Executive Committee on strategy, vision, and reporting.
    • Equip Board members to engage their networks effectively.
    • Serve as liaison with Ugandan clinicians, hospital leaders, and local champions.
    • Keep the Board informed of developments in Uganda.

    Communications & Outreach

    • Serve as MHP’s public voice and advocate.
    • Manage website, newsletters, and social media (with support staff).
    • Represent MHP with donors, foundations, churches, and community groups.
    • Cultivate relationships with the Ugandan diaspora internationally.

    Operations & Finance

    • Oversee day-to-day operations, budget planning, reporting, and compliance.
    • Recruit and supervise one part-time support staff.
    • Maintain organizational systems and workflows.
    • Report regularly to the Board Chair on fundraising progress.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising (major gifts, donor cultivation).
    • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and project management ability.
    • 3–5+ years of nonprofit leadership or equivalent responsibility.
    • Proficiency with digital communication and donor management tools.

    Preferred

    • Experience in international development or global health, particularly in Africa.
    • Grant writing and foundation relationship management.
    • Familiarity with East Africa, healthcare, or construction projects.

    Attributes

    • Passion for children’s health and global equity.
    • Cross-cultural sensitivity and empathy.
    • Flexibility to work across time zones.
    • Ability to travel to Uganda once or twice per year.
