Summary

The Senior Manager, Individual Philanthropy oversees a comprehensive annual giving program, developing and implementing strategies to acquire new donors, retain and increase support from existing donors, and grow individual giving revenue. Through e-appeals, direct mail, personal outreach, and other fundraising initiatives, this role builds donor relationships and creates opportunities for increased engagement and giving. The Senior Manager also manages ACC’s Boroughbred Buddy monthly giving program and cultivates and stewards a portfolio of donors.

The Senior Manager plays an important role in the Philanthropy department’s moves management strategy, helping to strengthen donor engagement, stewardship, and long-term giving. This role works collaboratively across the Philanthropy team to identify opportunities to deepen donor relationships, increase individual giving, and expand ACC’s donor base in support of ACC’s mission to end animal homelessness in New York City.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising required, including demonstrated experience managing annual giving programs.
• Demonstrated experience developing fundraising appeals and donor communications, with excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
• Experience managing a portfolio of individual donors and developing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
• Experience working with donor databases and fundraising platforms; experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT, GoFundMe Pro (formerly Classy), and Mailchimp strongly preferred.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate fundraising results and donor data to inform strategy and identify opportunities for growth.
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to handle sensitive donor information with discretion and maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
• Experience supervising and supporting staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Essential Job Functions:

• Manage ACC’s annual giving program, developing and implementing strategies for donor acquisition, renewal, and upgrade through email, direct mail, and other individual giving initiatives.
• Develop and manage the annual appeals calendar and plan, write, and execute solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship communications to support annual revenue goals.
• Manage a portfolio of donors in the $250–$5,000 range, developing personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to deepen relationships and increase donor engagement and giving over time.
• Manage and grow ACC’s Boroughbred Buddy monthly giving program, including strategies to acquire, retain, steward, and upgrade monthly donors while strengthening long-term participation.
• Support the Philanthropy department’s moves management strategy by identifying opportunities to cultivate and advance individual donors through the giving pipeline, from initial giving through increased levels of engagement and support.

Other Responsibilities:

• Analyze individual giving performance and donor trends to inform fundraising strategy, including acquisition, retention, renewal, upgrades, monthly giving, and appeal performance.
• Track progress toward individual giving revenue goals and contribute to annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial projections for the individual giving program.
• Identify donors with the potential for increased giving and work with the Philanthropy team to move qualified major gift prospects into appropriate portfolios for continued cultivation and relationship management.
• Ensure donor interactions, cultivation activities, and moves are accurately and consistently documented in Raiser’s Edge and maintain appropriate follow-up for assigned donors and prospects.
• Conduct prospect research and prepare donor profiles, briefing materials, and other information to support donor meetings and cultivation activities.
• Collaborate with Marketing & Communications department and other internal teams to coordinate fundraising communications, messaging, and solicitations across channels.
• Create, build, test, and deploy fundraising emails and donor communications in Mailchimp, ensuring accuracy, appropriate audience segmentation and timely execution.
• Create and manage online fundraising campaigns and donation forms in GoFundMe Pro, including campaign setup and donor-facing content.
• Work with Philanthropy Operations to support audience segmentation, donor data needs, list preparation, and reporting for individual giving initiatives.
• Support the continued growth of ACC’s Legacy Society through planned giving cultivation, stewardship, and donor communications.
• Support various donor cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events in collaboration with the Philanthropy team and outside consultants.
• Stay informed of individual giving trends, fundraising practices and opportunities that may strengthen ACC’s annual giving and donor engagement strategies.
• Supervise assigned Philanthropy staff, including setting priorities, providing guidance, and supporting professional development.
• Fear Free certification within 30 days of hire.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Work Environment

The role is hybrid but based at ACC’s NYC Headquarters, our administrative office at 11 Park Place in lower Manhattan, with an expectation to be in the office 2 days per week or as needed. The position also requires frequent travel to ACC’s five Animal Care Centers across the five boroughs, as well as to fundraising and media events. Because ACC houses hundreds of animals across its facilities at any given time, visits to our Care Centers involve exposure to fur, odors, and other airborne particles.

ACC offers many low-cost services to pets and people in need. This includes compassionate end-of-life services for people who cannot afford to go to a private veterinary office but still want to provide a professional and peaceful transition for their beloved pet.
