    About HURIDOCS

HURIDOCS - Human Rights Information and Documentation Systems is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to strengthening the documentation practices of human rights defenders, civil society organisations, and justice-oriented institutions around the world. We design and support tools, strategies, and partnerships that help actors collect, organise, analyse, and mobilise information for accountability, advocacy, and long-term social change. Our flagship open-source platform, Uwazi, powers evidence management, documentation workflows, and data-driven human rights efforts for more than 300 projects and organisations globally. As a remote, globally distributed team, we value collaboration, flexibility, and a deep commitment to justice, transparency, and human dignity.

    About the Role

HURIDOCS is seeking a Project Coordinator for a new initiative, the Global Repository of Human Rights. This Global Repository of Human Rights will be a central hub that brings together content from multiple human rights collections in a unified, open-access, and easy-to-search platform. This project will showcase an Uwazi database that deploys our internally developed database features and machine learning tools to make publicly available human rights data more accessible, usable, and impactful.

The Project Coordinator will serve as the central focal point for internal coordination and external collaboration, ensuring that the project progresses on time, meets both technical and user-centered requirements, and reflects the needs of diverse stakeholders across the human rights ecosystem.

This is a full-time, 10-month consultancy suited to a highly organised, politically savvy, and technologically fluent professional with knowledge of the human rights field. The role is ideal for someone who thrives in a remote work environment and is comfortable working across teams, cultures, time zones and disciplines.

    Key Responsibilities

    Project Coordination and Management

    • Lead the day-to-day coordination of the Global Repository project, ensuring that milestones, timelines, and deliverables are met.
    • Serve as the main point of contact between internal teams, including product, programmes, partnerships, and tech, and external partners.
    • Develop and maintain core project documentation, including work plans, schedules, status updates, and reports.
    • Track progress, identify risks and dependencies, and proactively propose solutions or adjustments as needed.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Identify, map, and engage a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring their needs and perspectives meaningfully inform the project.
    • Plan and facilitate consultations, workshops, and bilateral discussions with human rights organisations, legal experts, and technical partners.
    • Manage sensitive relationships with political awareness, discretion, and strong cultural competence.

Technical Scoping, Governance, and Information Design

    • Lead scoping and discovery processes by working with internal and external stakeholders to clarify needs, define use cases, and articulate what the Global Repository should achieve, translating these into clear functional, content, and data requirements.
    • Define and maintain governance frameworks that clarify ownership, roles, workflows, quality standards, and long-term stewardship of content across the repository.
    • Guide the design of the repository’s information architecture and data models, ensuring information is logically structured, well described, interoperable, and easy for users to navigate and reuse.
    • Define success criteria and monitoring approaches, gather feedback and usage insights, and use this evidence to iteratively improve the repository’s relevance, usability, and effectiveness.

    Communication and Reporting

    • Prepare high-quality written materials, including briefs, presentations, project updates, reports, and internal documentation.
    • Communicate progress, risks, and challenges clearly and regularly to the Executive Director and the broader HURIDOCS team.
    • Contribute to external-facing materials related to the project and ensure alignment with HURIDOCS’ strategic positioning and messaging.

    Required Qualifications

    • Demonstrated understanding of the international human rights system and of international and regional legal and accountability mechanisms.
    • Proven experience in project management in remote, international, and multi-stakeholder environments.
    • Strong self-management skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
    • Demonstrated political and interpersonal savvy, including experience working with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
    • Applied knowledge of information architecture and database design principles.
    • Familiarity with feature specification data structures and processes for database-driven or documentation-focused tools.
    • Ability to identify and analyse stakeholder needs and dynamics.
    • Understanding of the international human rights system.
    • Experience working in and/or with civil society organisations.

    Assets (Preferred but Not Required)

    • Knowledge or prior use of Uwazi or other IT tools for data and documentation management.
    • Legal knowledge or experience working with legal documentation.

    Working Arrangement

    • Fully remote; candidates may be based anywhere in the world.
    • Will work closely with and be managed by the Executive Director, with regular interaction across all major teams at HURIDOCS
    • Flexible working hours to accommodate coordination across time zones, with a standard workweek of 40 hours.
    • We welcome diversity and do not discriminate on any basis, including age, gender identity, nationality or sexual orientation. Our team consists of parents and non-parents, self-taught and degree educated.
