    General Position Summary: This position coordinates repack of donated items by directing the activities of volunteers. This position orients, trains, gives direction to, and keeps volunteers safe and on task during repack activities. Ensures volunteers know and adhere to safe food handling practices, production objectives and quality standards. Ensures all donated products are ultimately ready to be distributed to the community through a variety of outlets.

    Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

    • Orients, trains, and directs groups of volunteers during repack activities; ensures volunteers are aware of safe food handling procedures, repack standards and that they wear required food handling gear.

    • Plans, prepares training materials, sets-up, and cleans-up for all volunteer repack activities.

    • Creates positive experience and identifies sort efficiencies for volunteers.

    • Weighs, palletizes, tags, ensures quality of and transfers products repacked by volunteers into designated area or program.

    • Cleans, organizes and maintains warehouse areas in compliance with food safety standards.

    • Operates forklifts, pallet jacks and other mechanical warehouse equipment.

    • Tracks daily work on forms and submits digital reports at end of day. Utilizes digital inventory tracking system frequently.

    Secondary Functions:

    • Supports two food distribution programs and their volunteer teams as needed.

    • Supports on various warehouse upkeep tasks including cleaning, organizing, and presetting for other repack sorts.

    • Develops and updates sort training materials as needed and with teammates.

    • Trains Production Corps volunteers on additional support tasks.

    • Processes and allocates donations not suitable for volunteer sorts.

    • Communicates current product recall information that to volunteers.

    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

    • Occasionally supports other teams with special events that could include food drives, fundraising events, annual agency conference, etc.

    • Has recurring work schedule with consistent variations in project type and group size.

    • Has a mid-level of work complexity due to variety of product and fluctuation in volunteer workforce.

    • Operates from established and well-known procedures.

    • Performs work under moderate supervision.

    • Decisions are made within prescribed operating guidelines and procedures.

    • Collaborates with other warehouse teams on inventory movement and warehouse upkeep.

    • Responsibility for planning and problem solving: Informally makes operational planning recommendations for department/functional area. Resolves issues in real time that impact functions and food safety.

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    • No supervisory responsibility. Reports to: Volunteer Production Manager

    Specific Job Skills:

    • Knowledge of Food Lifeline’s history and mission.

    • Knowledge of safe food product handling techniques.

    • Knowledge of warehouse practices, documentation, and storage techniques.

    • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices.

    • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to apply concepts of basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.

    • Ability to utilize digital spreadsheets, digital calendars, and email.

    • Ability to train in a small to large group situation.

    • Ability to supervise volunteers in a positive manner, using tact and patience.

    • Ability to work with children/youth volunteers.

    • Ability to work as member of a team.

    • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.

    • Ability to operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts and other mechanized warehouse equipment.

    • Ability to handle consistent physical labor.

    Education and/or Experience:

    • High school education or GED required.

    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Outlook preferred.

    • Experience working with food or in food industry preferred.

    • Prior warehouse experience preferred, but not required.

    • Prior experience operating warehouse equipment including forklift, pallet jack, order pickers preferred, but not required. Must possess or obtain forklift certification within 30 days of hire.

    • An equivalent combination of education and/or training and/or experience may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

    • Required to possess a State of Washington Food Handler’s Permit, or to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

    • Ability to pass background check including criminal investigation to ensure ability to work with or around children/youth.

    Job Conditions: The Volunteer Repack Coordinator works in a warehouse environment around moving power and manual equipment, including order pickers with elevated work platforms. The position is subject to extreme temperature changes, as the warehouses aren’t heated, and includes work in both a cooler and freezer environment. Subject to typical warehouse noise level, and/or noise of multiple people speaking simultaneously. Work areas may be cramped. Requires working closely with others and dealing with multiple questions or demands with patience and tact. Requires the ability to keep volunteers, including children/youth engaged, on task and in compliance with warehouse rules and safety standards.

    Physical Demands: Work is performed in warehouse setting with adequate ventilation, lighting, and heat, but daily tasks require entering into walk in coolers and freezers and extreme cold. Position requires operation of forklift, order pickers, and pallet jacks, often in congested areas and to unload semi-trucks. Position has continuous exposure to packaged and unpackaged food items. Position requires continuous walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, feeling, reaching, grasping, lifting, and handling of product. Position requires repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and feet. Position requires continuous talking, sometimes with a loud voice. Job requires the ability to routinely lift and carry up to 60 pounds

    Schedule, Location & Benefits:

    • Salary range is $26.00-28.00/hour with full benefits including employer paid medical coverage for employees and children, dental, and vision insurance, employer paid basic life, long and short-term disability, and a company match for 403(b) retirement plans, and generous paid time off, including parental leave.
    • Based at our Hunger Solution Center in South Park, Seattle- On site 5 days a week
    • Hours vary depending on repack shifts and volunteer needs- nights and weekend work is required
