    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Summary/ Objective

East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their community. ESH’s COMPASS Elementary Summer Camp Program aligns with our mission by providing high-quality programs and services within community centers and school partnerships.

Our COMPASS Summer Camp Program, funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), offers high-quality summer programming designed to support the academic, social, and emotional development of youth.

Our summer camp provides a safe, engaging, and enriching environment where participants explore STEM, arts, sports, leadership, social-emotional learning, and more through hands-on, interactive experiences.

We are seeking a dynamic, creative, and dedicated Activity Specialist who is passionate about youth development and high-quality enrichment programming. The Activity Specialist will design and lead engaging activities strictly within their assigned specialty area: Basketball, Martial Arts/Boxing, Volleyball, or Dance, while supporting a safe, inclusive, and structured environment for all participants.

      2. Design and implement structured lesson plans in your assigned specialty area (Basketball, Martial Arts/Boxing, Volleyball, or Dance).
      3. Develop skill-based curriculum that supports physical development, teamwork, discipline, and youth growth.
      4. Facilitate activities that build new skills while reinforcing previously learned techniques and concepts.
      5. Support program operations, including supervision during snack/supper, dismissal procedures, field trips, and special events.
      6. Collaborate with Youth Educators to support activity facilitation and youth engagement.
      7. Maintain strong group management and behavior expectations in all activities.
      8. Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment at all times.
      9. Build positive, professional relationships with youth and staff while serving as a role model.
      10. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper care of all equipment and program materials.
      11. Address behavioral concerns in collaboration with the Program Director or Assistant Program Director.
      12. Organize and maintain assigned equipment and storage areas.
      13. Participate in all required trainings, professional development sessions, and staff meetings.
      14. Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, reliability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
      15. Support agency events and community engagement activities as needed.
      16. Follow all East Side House Settlement (ESH) policies, procedures, and standards.
