    Descrição

The New England College of Optometry (NECO) seeks a creative, strategic, and technically skilled Web Content Specialist to join its Marketing & Communications team. This role combines dynamic digital storytelling with hands-on WordPress web development and content management.

The ideal candidate is both a compelling digital storyteller and a confident WordPress developer who can translate NECO’s mission: Changing the Way People See the World—into engaging content across platforms. This position plays a critical role in elevating NECO’s brand among prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the College.

This position is hybrid: 3 days in-office and 2 days remote. The salary for this position is $70,000-$75,000.

    Key Responsibilities

WordPress Web Development & Content Management

    • Manage and update NECO’s various WordPress websites to ensure content is current, accurate, and aligned with brand standards.
    • Build and maintain web pages, landing pages, and campaign microsites to support Admissions, Development & Alumni, and institutional initiatives.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate complex academic and clinical information into accessible, engaging web content.
    • Ensure best practices in SEO, accessibility (ADA compliance), usability, and mobile responsiveness and work with outside consultants as directed.
    • Troubleshoot site issues, manage plugins, and coordinate with external developers or IT as needed.
    • Continuously improve user experience to support prospective student recruitment and alumni engagement.

    Storytelling & Content Development

    • Identify and develop compelling stories that showcase NECO’s impact in education, patient care, research, and community service.
    • Interview students, faculty, staff, alumni, and patients to craft authentic narratives for digital channels.
    • Partner with Admissions to develop content that supports recruitment and enrollment.
    • Support Advancement by promoting alumni achievements, events, and giving initiatives.
    • Maintain a consistent institutional voice and visual identity across digital platforms.

    Collaboration & Project Management

    • Work closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications to align digital strategies with institutional goals.
    • Collaborate across departments including Admissions, Development, Academic Affairs, CAPA, and NECO’s two clinics.
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced academic environment.
    • Assist with live event coverage and digital promotion of campus activities.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Web Development, or a related field.
    • 2-3 years of experience in web development.
    • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining WordPress websites (themes, plugins, page builders, basic HTML/CSS).
    • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone for diverse audiences.
    • Experience with analytics tools (Google Analytics).
    • Proficiency with content creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, video editing software).
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Preferred

    • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or nonprofit marketing.
    • Basic photography and videography skills.
    • Understanding of accessibility standards and best practices in web design.

    Core Competencies

    • Strategic & Instinctive Storyteller: A mission-driven professional with strong creative instincts and a passion for uncovering compelling narrative elements.
    • Proactive & Independent Initiative: Demonstrates the ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment to keep management informed while proactively seeking guidance and providing regular progress updates.

    • Technically Proficient & Detail-Oriented: Combines technical expertise with a sharp eye for detail to ensure all deliverables meet the highest standards.
    • Balanced Innovator: Skillfully balances the need for brand consistency with a drive for creative innovation.
