    About Oakland Promise:

    Oakland Promise supports young learners (from newborns to college students) and their families who reside in Oakland. OP offers every child financial resources, educational programming, mentorship, and a supportive community to help them and their families thrive in higher education and the career of their choosing. Our mission is to engage the Oakland community to advance equity and economic mobility through cradle-to-college-and-career achievement. Oakland Promise leads key programming including, Brilliant Baby, K–12 services, College & Career work, East Oakland Promise Neighborhood initiative and now Wealth Builds Oakland; together, they are designed to remove structural barriers and foster intergenerational social and economic mobility.

    About the Wealth Builds Oakland program:

    Wealth Builds Oakland (WBO) is a high-priority initiative designed to increase economic mobility for Oakland families by providing tools, resources, and opportunities to grow generational wealth. The program focuses on building financial capability, supporting savings and investment strategies, and partnering with local and national institutions to expand access to economic opportunity. WBO works in partnership with the National Wealth Builds Partner to ensure alignment with national standards and practices, while tailoring implementation to meet the unique needs of Oakland communities.

    About the Role:

    Oakland Promise seeks a Director of Wealth Builds Oakland to lead the design, implementation, and scaling of the Wealth Builds initiative. This leader will serve as the strategic and operational driver for the program, coordinating partnerships, managing financial and impact tracking systems, and ensuring strong collaboration across OP departments and with the National partner. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, entrepreneurial, and detail-oriented professional who is passionate about building pathways to social and economic mobility. This position is full-time, hybrid, and requires residence within commuting distance to Oakland.

    The ideal candidate for this role will be visionary and strategic, possessing the ability to forge and nurture strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. This role requires a proactive individual who champions continuous improvement and thrives in navigating ambiguity. The ability to communicate effectively and inspire others is also essential, ensuring alignment and shared vision across all teams.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Strategic Leadership & Program Execution

    • Drive the design and ongoing execution of the Wealth Builds Oakland operating plan.
    • Develop and implement pillar-specific strategies (e.g., savings, homeownership, entrepreneurship, investments).
    • Identify and partner with vendors and community organizations to launch and manage program initiatives.
    • Establish systems for program management, impact tracking, financial management, and participant feedback.
    • Coordinate with the National partner for technical support, progress tracking, and best-practice sharing.

    Partnerships & External Relations

    • Cultivate deep cross-functional and cross-sector relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with the Development and Communications teams to raise required matching contributions and build public awareness.
    • Represent Oakland Promise in meetings, events, and community engagements to promote the WBO initiative.

    Data, Metrics, & Impact

    • Collaborate closely with the OP Impact & Evaluation team to develop systems to collect, track, and report on outcomes and key metrics for each program pillar.
    • Ensure data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement across all Components of WBO.
    • Collaborate with the OP Impact & Evaluation team to prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including funders and the Board.

    Team & Organizational Alignment

    • Work closely with OP leadership to align WBO with organizational priorities and objectives.
    • Collaborate across departments to ensure coordinated implementation and maximum community impact.
    • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and learning within the WBO team.

    Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
    • Minimum 4+ years of professional experience, preferably in educational program management or partnerships.
    • Proven project management skills and strong attention to detail.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to build and manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
    • Highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM or impact tracking systems.

    Preferred:

    • Experience in financial capability, community wealth-building, or economic mobility initiatives.
    • Familiarity with nonprofit or education sectors.
    • Deep understanding of Oakland communities and commitment to equity-driven work.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • Full-time exempt position.
    • Salary range: $110,000–$125,000
    • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance.

    Work Location Requirement:

    Oakland Promise staff work in a hybrid model, with some remote work and regular in-person engagements in Oakland. All staff must reside within commuting distance of the main office at 484 9th Street, Oakland, CA 94607.
