    Black Feminist Future (BFF) is an initiative informed by the legacy of Black feminist organizing, grounded in the current pulse of movements, and located at the emergent need to amplify the power of ALL Black women and girls in organizing and building power for the 21st century. BFF is a movement incubator that focuses on the dynamic possibilities of galvanizing the social and political power of those who have the lived experience of being a Black woman or girl including but not limited to trans, cis, gender non conforming, non binary, LGBTQI, and other gender marginalized people.     Position Notice

    Employees of Black Feminist Future work across the 501(c)(3) organization and its 501(c)(4) arm, Black Feminist Future Action Fund, to maintain alignment and cohesion of organizational strategy and objectives across both entities, as established by the Executive Director.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Director of Development (SDD) is a member of Black Feminist Future’s senior leadership team and plays a pivotal role in architecting the design, planning, organizing, and strategy execution of a full-scale development program that maximizes BFF c3 and c4 funding streams. The Director will create and oversee an annual development plan that enables BFF to meet its goals through cultivating and stewardship of a diversified portfolio of foundation, individual, and corporate philanthropic support. In addition, the Director works closely with the Executive Director by providing leadership in research, moves management, and staying abreast of fundraising and philanthropic trends to help position BFF for organizational growth and sustainability.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Leadership and Strategy

    • Define and execute a multi-year fundraising infrastructure in support of Black Feminist Future’s short–term and long-term financial objectives, to include the strategies for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals, foundations, and corporate foundations for gifts in support of mission fulfillment.
    • Work closely with the ED and board to determine moves management plans for mid-sized and major funders; project manage the ED’s fundraising work, directing her where and how best to spend her time and efforts on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
    • Work in collaboration with the Communications team to increase media, marketing, and online presence to expand BFF’s donor reach.
    • Regularly brief the Executive Director on revenue benchmarks and strategic goals.
    • Provide leadership and training to the staff and Board on fundraising efforts, including sharing best practices and providing tools, information, and resources to strengthen fundraising efforts.
    • Lead, convene, supervise, support, and align additional development team members bringing expertise and recommendations on how to grow and strengthen the department.
    • Lead the development team in developing and monitoring annual goals, development plans, budgets, work plans, and calendars that align with broader organizational strategic plan goals
    • In conjunction with the Executive Director with support from the Board of Directors, lead annual and strategic fundraising planning and goal setting.
    • Actively participate and provide leadership as a member of the senior leadership team and as a senior director

    Fundraising and Donor Relations

    • Establish and steward relationships among funders, current and prospective donors, members, and other constituents to support programs and organizational priorities.

    Marketing and Communications

    • Develop and oversee writing/production of appropriate fundraising materials including, but not limited to, case statements, brochures, solicitation letters, grant proposals, acknowledgement and appreciation letters, donor reports, and campaign status reports.

    Development Operations and Revenue Tracking

    • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to ensure cross-department alignment of messaging, reporting, drafting proposals, and other key external deliverables.
    • Ensure grant management and donor operations systems are in place and maintained i.e. CRM, deadlines, data, etc.
    • Manage, support and/or mentor professionals that may include fundraisers, and/or staff from communications, programming, movement and network building teams to achieve organizational goals.
    • Travel to meet with donors, or host funders/donors as needed.
    • Oversee the EveryAction CRM, and serve as the CRM power user.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    • A proven track record in leading fundraising within a nonprofit organization with a focus on gender, racial justice, human rights funders
    • Strong experience using a race, class, gender lens in verbal and written communications
    • The ability to communicate in ways that are donor-centric and further the strategic goals and priorities of the organization.
    • A “self-starter” and goal driven mentality and are excited to initiate donor visits, fundraising calls, and funder outreach to promote Black Feminist Future, and build/sustain external relationships.
    • Prior experience successfully managing staff and building out teams
    • A Strong demonstrated commitment to our Black feminist values and to shifting the material conditions for Black women, girls, and gender expansive people in the US & across the diaspora
    • An awareness of, and relationships with funders and a strong network of contacts across social justice movement spaces
    • A proven track record of managing multiple staffers, who work on a variety of projects, in tandem.
    • Outstanding time management and organizational skills, with careful attention to detail and accountability for meeting deliverables and deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
    • Ability and willingness to travel regularly.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must have at least 10 years of development experience, ideally in in-house organizational leadership roles, covering areas such as designing and implementing successful development strategy, skillful donor outreach, and relationship management from small to major gift levels and team leadership skills.
    • Must be able to weave storytelling, narrative change and share the powerful message of BFF with current and potential donors to expand the critical mission of BFF.
    • Must have experience working with community, labor, or electoral organizations where you had success in developing a fundraising strategy to sustain a 5-10-million dollar budget. Similar level of experience supervising staff, with a strong track record of building teams and developing staff leadership
    • Must have well developed emotional intelligence, confidence and communication skills
    • Must display strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Commitment to racial, gender and economic justice and their intersections.

    Travel

    35% of travel is expected, including but not limited to BFF’s weeklong semiannual all-staff advances, occurring in the spring and fall of each calendar year, one executive and two senior leadership retreats as well as attendance at departmental advances the Managing Director oversees. Intermittent travel related to BFF programming needs may also occur.

    Location

    Black Feminist Future is a hybrid organization, based in Atlanta, GA with staff working both remote and in office with mandatory in person staff and team meetings and in office visits during the year. Staff residing in the metro Atlanta area are required to work in office twice per week.
