    ABOUT RECOVERY CAFÉ

    We are a community of individuals who have experienced trauma and the results of trauma such as homelessness, addiction and other mental health challenges coming to know we are loved and that we have gifts to share.

    Recovery Café was founded on the truth that every human being is precious and beloved regardless of past trauma, mental and emotional anguish, or addictive behaviors. We provide a beautiful, safe, warm, drug-and-alcohol-free space and loving community to anchor Café Members in the sustained recovery needed to gain and maintain access to housing, social and health services, healthy relationships, education, and employment. Our program is designed to help people maintain recovery, reduce recurrence of use, and fulfill their potential.

    The Recovery Cafe is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization offering non-clinical, community-centered recovery support.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with benefits. Under the direction of the Executive Director, this person serves as part of the entire Café team. The Director of Programs (DP) brings a clear understanding of the process of recovery and, with the team, is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of recovery support programming.

    Supervising and working alongside the Operations Manager, the DP is responsible for ensuring consistent implementation of the Recovery Cafe Model by maintaining a stance of radical hospitality in the context of loving accountability. The program and operations team consists of: Operations Manager and Program Manager who in turn supervise the Kitchen Manager, Volunteer Coordinator, Resource Specialist, and Recovery Support Specialists (FT, PT, and on call).

    PRIMARY DUTIES

    • Uphold Recovery Café guiding principles in program development and implementation.
    • Participate in daily operation of the Café.
      • Oversee a community of radical hospitality and loving accountability, to include:
        • ensure an environment that is clean, welcoming, safe
        • lead meal preparation as needed
      • Develop and maintain ongoing recovery support programming
        • Member Leadership Program
        • School for Recovery Curriculum
        • Facilitate a weekly small group recovery support
    • Provide onboarding, ongoing training, and weekly supervision to Café team(s):
      • Design and support implementation of a staff scheduling system
      • Support development of HR policies and procedures related to program staff in coordination with the Director of Administration and HR, to be implemented by Operations Managers.
      • Facilitate weekly staff consultation to discuss concerns about Members and appropriate responses.
      • Provide 1:1 weekly supervision, establish professional growth goals, complete annual evaluations for assigned staff.
      • Establish training and support for the team, in particular for Recovery Support Specialists in:
        • relevant service provider skills; e.g. record keeping, reporting responsibilities
        • established recovery principles; e.g. Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Aware communication
        • basic food & beverage delivery; e.g. efficient kitchen and supply management
      • Maintain up-to-date materials needed for program operation (e.g. forms, templates) in the shared google drive.
    • Develop provider partnerships & increase access to services for Members:
      • Advocate for Member access to healthcare services and resources
      • Support Member engagement in the larger community and coordination of care
      • Increase awareness of the key role on-going support plays in recovery
      • Respond to community interest via email, phone requests
    • Manage the Community Volunteer Program:
      • Supervise the Community Volunteer and Engagement Coordinator (CVEC) who serves as the primary contact for volunteer recruitment, training, nurture, and retention
      • Supervise outreach, engagement, and retention of individual volunteers and groups; e.g. faith communities, youth groups, corporations, sponsors
      • Develop the mechanism and supervise the process of tracking volunteer information and involvement for annual reports
    • Serve as the RC Seattle lead communicator with RCN (Recovery Cafe Network):
      • Actively support immersion training experiences visiting RCN Cafés
      • Provide training consultation to RCN as needed
    • Serve as the AGENCY (database software) lead in coordination with the Operations and/or Program Manager(s):
      • To include design of a data collection system to meet grant reporting requirements
      • Prepare regular data summaries for the ED and BOD
      • Train and supervise data entry and system maintenance
    • Support Development, Fundraising, and Grant Writing efforts:
      • Complete an annual Member satisfaction evaluation, usually with the assistance of the Hospitality Coordinator
      • Use AGENCY to generate reports of Member data for use in grant applications, grant reporting, donor communications,
      • Assist with grant writing and reporting in collaboration with the Development team.

    WORKING SCHEDULE

    This is a full-time, in person position. The schedule of work will vary according to staffing needs, but will generally occur Monday-Friday 9am-6pm. At least one Saturday a month may be required.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

    • Master’s degree in a relevant social service field. Licensed or license in-process in WA State.
    • 3-5 years work experience in a mental health support setting with progressively increasing responsibility utilizing relevant skills, including at least 2 years supervisory experience.
    • A strong desire to support others on the recovery journey with compassion.
    • Ability to support and motivate all pathways of recovery.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, to include:
      • ability to work amicably on a diverse team with flexibility and enthusiasm
      • ability to establish and maintain appropriate relationship boundaries
    • Ability to de-escalate interpersonal conflict and other difficult situations in a context of loving accountability.
    • Strong communication skills:
      • ability to represent Recovery Café services to Members, other agencies, and visitors both orally and in writing
      • ability to communicate effectively and professionally via email
      • strong record keeping and organization skills
    • Strong organizational skills including time management and team utilization.
    • Proficiency in basic computer skills and ability to utilize Microsoft Word and Excel.

    ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A personal understanding of the recovery journey (not necessarily from substance use).
    • If the candidate is in recovery from alcohol and/or other substances they must be in stable recovery, usually understood as 2 years of sobriety.
    • Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly desired.
    • Drug/Alcohol Counseling or education in Human Services (e.g. Substance Use).
    • A working understanding of database management.
