About Coffee Quality Institute
Founded in 1996, the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) is a nonprofit organization working internationally to improve the quality of coffee and the lives of the people who produce it. CQI offers training and support to Arabica and Canephora coffee producers, and other individuals in the supply stream, to increase coffee quality and value. Our programs, business solutions and innovative approaches to economic sustainability allow producers to not only improve their income today but also make investments for the future of their households and communities.
Role in the Organization
The Educational Content Design Consultant supports the Education team by transforming existing CQI educational content into engaging, visually compelling, and modern learning materials. Working with education staff, subject matter experts, educators, consultants, and other contributors, the contractor will review existing curriculum and educational resources and develop or refresh presentations, graphics, illustrations, posters, infographics, video content, and other multimedia resources. The goal is to strengthen the visual quality, accessibility, consistency, and overall learning experience of CQI educational materials while helping the organization adopt current digital and technology-enabled approaches to content creation.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce books, guidebooks, and other visual materials to support all newly developed educational content.
- Review existing CQI educational materials and identify opportunities to improve visual presentation, clarity, engagement, and consistency.
- Design and develop professional PowerPoint presentations and other presentation materials for CQI courses, training, and educational initiatives.
- Create original graphics, illustrations, infographics, posters, diagrams, and other visual learning resources.
- Create and edit educational video and multimedia content, including short instructional or promotional pieces as needed.
- Translate technical and educational information into clear, engaging, and visually effective learning materials while preserving content accuracy.
- Establish and maintain a consistent visual look and feel across CQI education resources.
- Collaborate with education staff, subject matter experts, course authors, and other contributors to develop and refine materials.
- Modernize existing content using current design practices, multimedia approaches, and appropriate digital and AI-assisted creative tools.
- Organize project files and source materials so that final assets are easy for the Education team to access, revise, and reuse.
- Manage assigned projects independently, communicate progress, meet agreed deadlines, and deliver polished final products.
- Support additional Education team projects as mutually agreed upon based on project needs and scope.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong graphic design skills with a professional portfolio demonstrating visual communication and design work.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and the ability to create polished, engaging presentations.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent professional design tools.
- Experience with video editing and multimedia production.
- Ability to create illustrations, infographics, posters, diagrams, and other visual assets for educational or professional audiences.
- Strong visual communication skills and the ability to turn complex information into clear and engaging content.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and consistency.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage multiple project assignments and deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with subject matter experts and non-designers.
- Comfort learning and applying new creative technologies, including appropriate AI-assisted design and content-production tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing materials for education, training, e-learning, or adult learning.
- Experience with learning management systems or e-learning authoring platforms.
- Experience working with nonprofit or educational organizations.
- Familiarity with coffee, agriculture, international development, or other technical subject matter is a plus.
- Experience using AI-enabled creative or multimedia production tools in a professional setting.
Engagement Structure
This is a flexible, part-time consultant position. Work may be assigned according to specific projects, deliverables, and timelines rather than a fixed full-time schedule. The scope of each assignment will be agreed upon with the Education team based on organizational priorities, available content, and project needs.
