Organizational Mission: The mission of 350 Colorado (350CO) is to build a powerful grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis and transition to a sustainable future. 350 Colorado is the largest Colorado-based organization focused on taking action to address climate change. Our theory of change is focused on building a powerful movement of people to create the changes needed for a fast, fair transition from fossil fuels to clean renewable energy. We work to empower volunteers and local communities with the tools and skills to create measurable change towards a sustainable future. 350 Colorado is dedicated to achieving three primary organizational goals: Movement Building, Keeping Fossil Fuels in the Ground, and Promoting Local Solutions.

    Job Description:

350 Colorado is hiring a community organizer to aid in the growth and success of our 350 Roaring Fork team and climate organizing on the western slope/mountain regions of Colorado. The 350 Roaring Fork organizer will recruit, train and engage volunteers in climate action both at the local and statewide level.

350 Roaring Fork Team Coordinator Position:

350 Colorado seeks a Roaring Fork area organizer to recruit and lead volunteer engagement to further our mission. We seek self-starters with the passion, creativity, and drive to make things happen while working independently and in close coordination with other staff members, volunteers and allies. This position will offer opportunities to help lead campaign strategic planning, collaborate with allies, conduct community outreach and communications strategies, promote educational events and action opportunities, build coalition support, develop volunteer engagement, and support advocacy with elected officials.

The Coordinator will aid in the team’s growth and success in climate organizing and local campaigns. The person serving in this role must be hard working, self-motivated, excellent at working in coalitions with allies and with volunteers, and must demonstrate a commitment and passion for environmental protection and climate action. Interested applicants should be capable of working remotely, able to lead online meetings and events, as well as attend/lead in person meetings and events. 350CO team members work from home and must be available as needed for meetings and events in the evenings and on the weekends to accommodate volunteer participation.

    Status: Contract position, part time

    Reports to: Executive Director

    Essential Functions:

    • Grow local team membership and the local climate movement by recruiting new volunteers and engaging them in local and statewide climate action.
    • Host and facilitate grassroots organizing leadership trainings for local residents to help volunteers step up the ladder of engagement and establish a strong network of volunteer leaders.
    • Plan and co-lead outreach and education events on climate issues for the local community, including monthly in person team meetings/events to educate and activate volunteers
    • Strengthen and develop new partnerships with other nonprofit organizations to create a robust coalition for climate action in the Roaring Fork Valley
    • Recruit, meaningfully engage, coordinate and delegate to volunteers and check in with them to support and maximize volunteer retention, including recruiting team leadership council members
    • Movement building:
      • Grow local team membership and the local climate movement by actively recruiting new volunteers and engaging them in both local and statewide climate action, depending on their interests. • Help to plug volunteers into various roles and tasks, based upon team needs and volunteers’ interests and expertise.
    • Campaign coordination and leadership:

      • Recruit, meaningfully engage, coordinate and delegate campaign roles and responsibilities to volunteers and check in with them to support and maximize volunteer retention.
      • Promote the team’s activities both through social media and traditional media - via efforts to get media coverage, e.g. from press releases, press conferences, letters to the editor, opinion editorials, and postings in events calendars (online, radio and print). Ideally 4-6 press hits per team per year.
    • Assist with fundraising, as time allows:
      • Help recruit monthly donors, with a recruitment goal of 10 additional monthly donors per team by end of year.
      • Local team coordinators will support 350CO’s Development Director with grant writing as needed.
      • Participation in 350CO’s mid- and end-of-year fundraisers - supporting via emails, phonebanking, social media, etc.
      • Support local team fundraising efforts to cover the costs of events, materials, supplies and other needs that arise.
    • Lead your team in strategic planning toward the above goals, at least once per year (and ideally every 6 months), and track progress toward goals to report at least monthly.
