    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000

    SUMMARY: This position requires a high degree of discretion and excellent professional judgment. Overall responsibility for focusing attention on securing funding and support from foundation and institutional giving entities. Responsibilities include performing the following duties:

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Identify prospective foundation funders aligned with the Zoo’s mission and priorities.
    2. Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective foundation donors.
    3. Serve as the primary writer on all grant proposals, requests, and reports to foundations.
    4. Manage the grant submission process, including collection and synthesis of data, completion of proposals, tracking, reporting, and corresponding with foundation and corporate donors.
    5. Develop and maintain an annual schedule of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports, tracking outcomes and updating the calendar on a regular basis.
    6. Build and sustain a pipeline of prospective funders by researching and identifying new grant prospects.
    7. Stay informed on trends in foundational giving and environmental/conservation funding.
    8. Cultivate and maintain relationships with foundation program officers and representatives.
    9. Coordinate foundation site visits and prepare leadership/staff for donor meetings.
    10. Ensure regular communication with funders regarding impact and outcomes.
    11. Track foundation interactions, proposals, and gifts in the donor database (e.g. Raiser’s Edge).
    12. Analyze and report on foundational giving performance to leadership.
    13. Ensure compliance with grant agreements, including deliverables and recognition.
    14. Work closely with the development team to align foundation strategy with broader goals.

    QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university or equivalent preferred.

    EXPERIENCE: Minimum three - five years work experience in grant writing and institutional fundraising, preferably in a zoo, museum, or environmental nonprofit. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to be a team player, Proficient computer skills with previous database experience.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. Occasionally this position may assume responsibility for non-HR functions as needed.
      2. Interacts with Zoo guests courteously and offers proper attention at all times.
      3. Where applicable, conducts manager and supervisory in-service training on related human resources areas.
