    Company Description:

Life Skills Centers, Inc., founded in 1983, provides programs, services, and activities to empower individuals in achieving independence, employability, and community integration. Operating across four counties in Southeast Michigan, the organization is dedicated to fostering participant choice and enriching lives. With a focus on promoting independence and community engagement, Life Skills Centers creates opportunities for personal growth and meaningful connections.

    Job description:

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate Human Services Program Manager to lead our Bright Futures day program in Port Huron. This is a full-time, on-site role centered on direct support and care for adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities. The right candidate has a genuine passion for empowering individuals with disabilities and meaningful experience working hands-on in human services, social services, or a related care setting. This is not a corporate or technology project management role — success here is measured by the quality of life outcomes and independence achieved by the individuals we serve. The Program Manager provides direct support to participants in daily living skills, communication, socialization, and community integration, while leading and supervising a team of direct support staff. Additional responsibilities include staff scheduling and supervision, program planning in alignment with our mission, monitoring regulatory compliance (MDHHS), coordinating with families and support networks, and maintaining accurate participant records in our Electronic Health Record system. The Program Manager works on-site alongside participants and staff every day and must be physically present and actively engaged in program activities.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and 5 years of direct experience supporting adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities (e.g., in a group home, day program, community mental health, or residential care setting), including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role. Preferred: bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, Human Services, or a closely related field, plus at least 2 years of direct experience with the population served.
    • Leadership and organizational skills, including experience in team management and staff supervision.
    • Demonstrated ability to supervise and train employees.
    • Experience developing and implementing person-centered plans and activity programming for individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities.
    • Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
    • Familiarity with budget oversight in a nonprofit or human services setting, including responsible use of program resources.
    • Knowledge of MDHHS licensing requirements, HIPAA, and other regulations governing disability services in Michigan; experience maintaining compliance in a licensed care setting is strongly preferred.
    • Proficiency in problem-solving and decision-making.
    • Ability to work effectively in an on-site, fast-paced environment.
    • A negative reaction to a TB skin test or chest x-ray.
    • A negative result to a drug screening and clean criminal background check.
    • Clean driving record, as determined by current insurance carrier for Life Skills Centers, Inc.
    • Ability to use a personal computer to conduct day-to-day business, including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Electronic Health Record systems.
    • Two positive character references.
    • Good moral character to include clear criminal background check.
    • Experience with community integration activities for individuals with disabilities, including coordinating outings, volunteer opportunities, or employment support, is a plus. Knowledge of local Community Mental Health (CMH) systems and Medicaid Waiver programs is a plus.
    • Experience working with individuals with dementia or memory impairment is a plus. The Bright Futures site includes a small Memory Care unit, and the Program Manager will collaborate with Memory Care staff to support continuity of care and a consistent, person-centered environment for all individuals served.
