    Descrição

    Fair Elections Center is seeking an experienced Grant Writer to lead institutional fundraising efforts from foundations, corporations, and other grant-making entities. This role is responsible for researching funding opportunities, writing compelling proposals and reports, managing grant compliance and reporting calendars, and fostering relationships with funders. The Grant Writer will collaborate closely with the development, program, finance, and leadership teams to secure and steward funding that supports the organization’s mission to advance voting rights and civic participation. This position reports to the Director of Development.

    Responsibilities:

    • Write, edit, and submit well-researched, well-written, and well-documented fundraising LOIs, concept notes, and proposals in a timely fashion, including collecting budgets and other materials from other FEC staff.
    • Conduct prospect research on potential corporate, foundation, and high net worth individual grantors aligned with FEC’s programmatic priorities to expand portfolio of potential funders, including recommending best grant/project and appropriate solicitation amounts for each prospect.
    • Ensure FEC compliance with grant agreements by writing, editing, and submitting narrative reports, as well as coordinating with finance team to gather any financial reporting information
    • Collaborate with program staff to ensure written materials reflect FEC’s institutional priorities, goals, and achievements.
    • Monitor grant awards to ensure project progresses in a timely manner and meets project goals/intended purpose and verify that all grant related clauses, certifications, and conditions are met.
    • Collaborate with the finance team and program staff to prepare program budget information for funders, including budget justification narratives.
    • Collaborate with the development team to maintain and implement grant management calendar, database, and files, including: grant requests and reporting requirements, grantors contact information, requests for funding, deadlines, and request outcomes.
    • Develop and cultivate relationships with program officers at foundations and corporations to solicit invitations to submit proposals, follow up on the status of proposals, coordinate site visits, and other communications.
    • Keep development and leadership team apprised of trends in philanthropy and grantmaking.
    • Participate in the preparation of large collaborative grant and foundation projects.
    • Assist with developing annual grant strategy based on funding priorities, working with the FEC development and leadership team.
    • Work with senior leadership and program staff to identify, develop, and compile data and metrics necessary for grant submissions.
    • Generate reports on the status of proposals, awards, and financial goals as needed.
    • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of five (5) years’ grant writing experience in a related field strongly preferred. Previous experience will demonstrate a proven track record in securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research; the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for special programs and writing foundation proposals and/or grant reporting.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – able to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals.
    • Strong computer literacy skills using word processing; spreadsheets; presentation software; development database management skills (Raiser’s Edge, Every Action, Donor Perfect, or equivalent CRM); and grant submission portals.
    • Excellent project management skills.
    • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills with consistent attention to detail.
    • With high-level direction and minimal oversight, able to work under deadline in a largely independent, self-directed manner, exercise own judgment, and manage multiple deadlines;
    • Capacity to work collaboratively with program and finance personnel and at times outside organizations in developing and managing grants.
    • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate, grant, and financial terminology.
    • Must be able to handle complex, highly sensitive, or confidential information professionally.
    • Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques, identification and resolution of grants administration issues and knowledge of laws, regulations, policy, and other requirements that affect grant program administration.
    • Demonstrated competence in working effectively with individuals from diverse educational and/or cultural backgrounds
    • Act as a resource to others to solve problems.
    • Have solid background in fundraising principles and a strong knowledge and understanding of foundations and corporate funding sources.
    • Proven knowledge and interest in the democracy/voting rights funding space is a plus.

    Location and Compensation:

    This is a full-time, permanent remote position but will require some travel to attend in-person meetings and events. Salary is $70,000 - $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Fair Elections Center offers generous employer paid health, vision, and dental insurance, 3 weeks’ vacation, and a 403(B)-retirement plan with employer contribution.
