Position Description
The Finance Director will work under the direction of the CEO supervising the accounting team of two. This position will provide assistance to a national 501c(3) organization and works closely with all departments to maintain accurate and complete financial records for the agency. This role bridges high-level financial strategy with daily operations, ensuring the integrity of all financial records, driving cross-departmental collaboration, and maintaining the agility to support core accounting functions (including payroll, AP, and AR) as needed
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Analysis & Planning:
- Drive financial modeling and comprehensive analysis to optimize business performance and architect tools that empower executive decision-making.
- Direct the annual agency budget development process, training and guiding staff; execute rigorous mid-year budget reviews to forecast variances and implement strategic adjustmentsLead financial system improvements (e.g., NetSuite) to ensure compliance and optimize efficiency.
- Advise the CEO, providing actionable insights and recommendations in response to macroeconomic shifts and the organization's financial trajectory.
Communication / Liaison:
- Manage activities of finance team: senior accountant and payroll specialist.
- Assist CEO in development, establishment, and implementation of procedures needed to implement/reinforce fiscal policies developed by Board and or regulations and procedures required by funding sources.
- Direct the relationship with external auditors and orchestrate the annual audit process from end to end.
- Partner strategically with the Operations Team to negotiate and manage real estate relationships, including landlord and sublet agreements.
- Co-present high-level financial reporting at Board of Directors meetings alongside the CFO/CEO and Board Treasurer.
Monitoring:
- Maintain rigorous oversight of monthly agency expenditures, ensuring adherence to the approved budget and delivering comprehensive variance analysis to executive leadership.
- Work with the Accounting team to develop monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting & statements for distribution & review by organization’s CEO, executive team, and Board of Directors.
- Command cash flow analysis, forecasting, and ongoing management. to ensure organizational liquidity.
- Support and monitor development and enterprise teams on timely receipt of accounts receivable.
- Oversee preparation of tax documentation.
- Interface with funding sources to insure up to date information on funding agency needs and possible funding changes; oversee allocations of expenses to restricted and unrestricted funding sources.
- Exercise financial authority by partnering with the COO to evaluate out-of-budget expenses and independently approving expenditures over $10,000.
Other:
- Ability to fulfill basic accounting responsibility e.g. maintaining and paying off accounts payables in timely manner or recording accounts receivables as needed.
- Fulfill general financial management needs as necessary.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor and/or Master’s degree in accounting and/or finance.
- Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years in nonprofit financial management or a highly related field.
- Knowledge of government-funded program accounting procedures/requirements, multi-fund and non-profit accounting.
- Skilled in operating, using and managing computer accounting programs, e.g. NetSuite; advanced understanding of Excel.
- Understanding and experience with investing and risk management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience and success in managing and motivating staff.
- Proven track record for problem solving, logistical analysis, and operational effectiveness.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
- Must be highly motivated, adaptable and organized.

Starting Salary: Salary range: $140-160k
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Hours/Week: 40 hours
Education: Minimum Bachelor and/or Master’s degree in accounting and/or finance. MBA preferred
Years of Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in nonprofit financial management or a highly related field
