JOB DESCRIPTION: The Youth Organizing Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination of the United Students component by overseeing and providing support for youth organizers, interns, and volunteers. The Youth Organizing Coordinator will oversee basebuilding, youth, and staff development strategies as well as being an active participant in key coalition spaces.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Supervising & Managing
- Oversee the United Students component by supervising and supporting Youth Organizers, interns, and volunteers.
- Review weekly work plans, ensuring a balanced workload that meets campaign organizing and programmatic needs
- Conduct staff evaluations and support in implementation of staff development plans
- Participate in collective ICS Leads meetings on behalf of the US component
- Lead and facilitate United Students component’s Strategic Planning process (pre-retreat, programmatic evaluations, 6-month workplan, and post-retreat)
- Coordinate the weekly planning of Coordinating Committee meetings & General Membership Meetings
Basebuilding & Holistic Leadership Development
- Oversee basebuilding (classroom presentations, lunchtime outreach, phonebanking, Blitz Days, Educational Justice weeks, etc.) and holistic leadership development strategies (Leadership Development Assessment, Stages of Leadership)
- Work with Site Organizers, the communications team, and the Youth Organizing Director to prep young people as spokespersons as needed
- Work with Site Organizers to develop the leadership for United Student members through our leadership development ladder.
Administrative Planning
- Manage the United Students program budget
- Lead annual reapplication processes for partnerships between LAUSD and ICS
- Maintain accurate and updated systems of tracking through the YOC tracker
- Create impact reports as needed for internal tracking and grant reporting
Alliances and Coalitions
- Represent InnerCity Struggle in key alliances and coalitions as identified by the Youth Organizing Director
Campaign Development
- Actively participate in Strategy Team Meetings
- Work with the Youth Organizing Director to identify and prioritize organizing strategies for key organizational campaigns
- Play an active role in one of the four organizational campaign areas: Educational Justice, Youth Justice, Housing Justice, or Civic Engagement through participating in planning and implementation of campaign activities.
Other
- Participate in ICS’s special events and grassroots fundraising efforts
- Engage in civic engagement activities, including, but not limited to, canvassing in the Eastside of Los Angeles
- Work with other organizational staff to coordinate cross-component or community activities
- Other duties and tasks as identified by the Youth Organizing Director
ICS IS SEEKING A PERSON WHO MEETS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong social justice analysis
- A CA driver’s license and access to a reliable automobile are required (with at minimum liability insurance)
- College Graduate who holds, at a minimum, a Bachelor of Arts Degree, or related experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in community organizing in low-income communities of color
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
- Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed or required by the Organization
- Track record of accomplishing goals and objectives effectively and in a timely manner
- Ability to work in a team setting and provide/receive constructive feedback
- Experience in developing and facilitating popular education curriculum
- Effective and concise writing and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with various stakeholders
- Interested in someone committed to remaining in position for at least 2 years

SALARY:
- $64,480 - 68,640 annual salary
