    Position: Development & Communications Manager

    About OneWorld Now!

OneWorld Now! (OWN) is a nonprofit with almost 25 years of experience providing inclusive and accessible international education for high school students. As part of our after-school or summer program, students can earn high school world language and elective credit by studying Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, or Russian. They can also opt to participate in credit-bearing leadership workshops and apply to study abroad in a range of countries.

OWN prioritizes the determined high school students who are historically marginalized by education systems, especially those coming from communities of color, communities new to the U.S., and communities facing economic hardship. Many of our students and families are rooted in South Seattle neighborhoods. Students join class in person and online, from Seattle and across the United States.

OneWorld Now!’s vision is that all youth have access to transformative international education opportunities. To help ensure this, all programs are priced on a sliding scale based on family size and income.

OneWorld Now! is committed to being an anti-racist organization and to supporting our youth, staff, and community in our collective, ongoing learning of how we can dismantle all systems of oppression.

    About the Role

OneWorld Now! is seeking an energetic, organized, and dedicated individual to join our team as a Development & Communications Manager. This position plays a dual role: leading the organization’s external communications and supporting our individual giving program. You will be the primary person responsible for creating and executing communications across all of OWN’s channels — from designing graphics in Canva to writing appeals, newsletters, and social media content. You will also work closely with the Executive Director to grow and sustain our individual donor base.

If you are a strong writer, a creative communicator, and passionate about raising money in support of a meaningful mission, this is the job for you!

    Minimum requirements:

    • At least two years of experience working in a fundraising role, with a demonstrated focus on individual giving.
    • Familiarity with, or interest in learning about, principles of Community-Centric Fundraising.
    • Experience working with Little Green Light or similar donor management tools.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute events.
    • Exceptional writing skills — ability to craft compelling, clear, audience-appropriate content for appeals, newsletters, social media, and donor communications.
    • Experience developing and executing external communications strategies, including digital, social media, and email marketing.
    • Proficiency with graphic design tools such as Canva for creating organizational communications materials.
    • Familiarity with Zoom, Google Workspace, and email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including ability to use flexible and culturally relevant approaches with communities and individuals with differing communication styles and needs.
    • Ability to work successfully independently and as part of a team, with effective time management and organizational skills.
    • Committed to racial, social, and economic justice, youth development, and sustaining an equitable and inclusive office environment.
    • Adaptable and open to feedback, learning, and growth.
    • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

    Preferred characteristics:

The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following:

    • Based in Seattle, with connections to the communities our students and families call home, including South Seattle and beyond.
    • Previous experience managing external communications in a nonprofit setting.
    • Previous experience with alumni engagement.
    • Knowledge of OneWorld Now! languages or cultures (Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, or Russian) and/or languages commonly spoken in Seattle (e.g., Somali, Oromo, Vietnamese).

    Duties:

    COMMUNICATIONS

    • Serve as the primary creator of all organizational communications across digital and print channels.
    • Design and produce materials using tools such as Canva, including newsletters, social media graphics, campaign assets, annual reports, and event materials.
    • Develop and execute a communications strategy that supports OWN’s fundraising goals, community visibility, and mission storytelling.
    • Write and manage a monthly newsletter, web articles, stakeholder stories, and donor communications.
    • Manage OWN’s presence across email marketing platforms (MailChimp), social media, and the website.
    • Employ asset-based storytelling about OWN students to uphold students’ worth and dignity.

    DONOR CULTIVATION AND STEWARDSHIP

    • Cultivate, maintain, and grow individual donor engagement. Ensure robust and timely donor appreciation and stewardship.
    • Set annual strategy, goals, and plan for individual giving (including campaigns and events).
    • With the Executive Director, assist in identifying major donor prospects and support cultivation and solicitation efforts as capacity allows.
    • Write appeal emails and letters.
    • Develop and maintain strategies for increasing engagement and giving from program alumni.
    • Manage donor database (Little Green Light), including entering, acknowledging, and recording all donations and donor information.

    OTHER DEVELOPMENT TASKS

    • With the Executive Director, support the Board of Directors to engage in the organization’s fundraising activities.
    • Lead the team in planning and executing small donor cultivation events.
    • Identify prospects and appropriate opportunities for building relationships with private, public, and corporate philanthropy.

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Collaborate with all staff to undo institutional and structural racism through ongoing collective training, education, and self-reflection.
    • Serve as an excellent ambassador for OneWorld Now! at all times, both formally and informally.
    • Participate in staff meetings and retreats.
    • Perform other administrative duties that assist in the smooth running of OneWorld Now! programming.

    Compensation, hours, and benefits:

This is a full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt position at a salary of $60,000–$62,000 annually, depending on experience (with an annual COLA increase). We will consider applicants interested in part-time work of at least 30 hours/week (with duties adjusted accordingly). Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support events. Generous benefits package with health insurance (medical, dental, and vision, with 100% employer contribution), retirement, and paid time off policy (beginning with three weeks per year plus two weeks of paid office closure).
