Position Summary

Rooted in Wyoming works to improve food security by supporting community gardens, providing garden-based education, and building partnerships that increase access to fresh, healthy food. The organization serves schools, food banks, food assistance programs, and community members who may face barriers to accessing nutritious food.

The AmeriCorps VISTA member will help strengthen Rooted in Wyoming’s programs by improving volunteer systems, developing tools for data collection and program evaluation, and reviewing internal policies and procedures. The VISTA will create resources and systems that help the organization grow, better measure its impact, and continue serving Wyoming communities.

Member Duties

The VISTA member may support work such as:

• Supporting volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and engagement
• Developing volunteer training and orientation materials
• Helping organize and improve program, participant, volunteer, and partner data
• Creating tools to measure program outcomes and community impact
• Assisting with community outreach and partnership development
• Reviewing and strengthening internal policies and procedures
• Supporting grant writing, fundraising, and resource development
• Developing templates, guides, and other tools that staff can continue using after the VISTA term
• Helping improve systems that support program consistency and long-term sustainability
• Supporting efforts to expand Rooted in Wyoming’s reach and strengthen services for communities experiencing food insecurity

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and keep information organized
• Comfortable working independently and collaborating with staff, volunteers, and community partners
• Basic computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, shared documents, and data entry
• Interest in nonprofit work, community development, local food systems, education, or public service
• Willingness to learn new systems and help improve existing processes
• Ability to build positive relationships with a variety of community members and partner organizations
• Dependable, flexible, and able to follow projects through from planning to completion
• Experience with fundraising, grant writing, volunteer coordination, outreach, communications, or data organization is helpful but not required

AmeriCorps VISTA Benefits

• Current Wyoming living allowance of $983.36 gross every two weeks, subject to applicable AmeriCorps rates

Position Requirements

This is a full-time, one-year national-service position and is not traditional salaried employment. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, meet all AmeriCorps VISTA eligibility and enrollment requirements, and successfully complete the criminal history screening required by AmeriCorps before beginning service.
