The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, and a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The COO will be responsible for overseeing daily operations and key departments, improving internal processes, and ensuring operational excellence aligned with the organization’s mission. This role is critical to maintaining integrity, efficiency, and impact of the organization.
Chief Operating Officer Job Responsibilities:
- Acts as a strategic partner to the President/CEO and works closely with the management team to ensure they are meeting performance expectations.
- Coaches and develops the team to ensure they are delivering against key metrics.
- Develops methods to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity, reduce costs, and improve control measures.
- Works collaboratively to develop and/or improve systems, processes, controls, and procedures that improve the overall efficiency of the agency.
- Provides timely, accurate reporting on the operating condition of the company.
- Oversees human resource strategy including recruitment, retention, and employee initiatives.
- Reviews benefits, payroll, 401k, and related performance management.
- Works closely with the Finance Director to monitor budgets, cash flow, and financial reporting.
- Ensures sound financial practices and accountability in all departments.
- Identifies and manages operational risks and implements mitigation strategies.
- Leads and develops a team across multiple locations and various functions.
- Motivates and leads a high-performance management team.
- Provides mentoring as a cornerstone to director and manager development.
- Works autonomously while ensuring CEO expectations are readily met.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Business, government, or non-profit management.
- Strategic planning and vision.
- Financial acumen, with considerable experience with budgeting and compliance.
- Interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, government, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of senior management experience, leading a diverse team with complex operations.
- In-depth understanding of risk management, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
